Guest guest
The vegetarian by default is funny. I bet my hubby feels that way too! You wouldn't catch him cooking. He doesn't even like to heat up soup. - <Irisbeetle Friday, February 16, 2001 9:58 PM (no subject) > ANYONE ELSE OUT THERE WHO HAS A HUSBAND NOT > > VEGETARIAN? Guest guest
does anyone know of any vegetarian festivals in the midwest??? is that a crazy question to ask in farm country? jmitzner <jmitzner Tuesday, February 27, 2001 12:15 PM (no subject) Susan and Pam, My kids 7,9, and 11 are vegan too, they go through cycles of feeling left out and them somewhat superior. I think what helps them is understanding and believing in what they do, that they don't want to hurt animals, get the diseases that non healthy eaters get etc. My children are slim and very healthy and they notice that most of their friends are a bit flabby (or even fat) and often sick this helps them too. I do take them to the NAVS' Vegetarian Summerfest each summer so they can spend a week with children who eat the same way! They love it and it helps! I wonder if a lot of people really feel in their hearts that they " should " be eating vegetarian for whatever reason, ethics or health, but don't have the gumption, so they get defensive when confronted with someone who is doing what they know they ought to do. Or maybe they figure vegetarians are feeling rather " holier than thou " ( maybe sometimes we are...) and react to that. Or maybe there are just a lot of people who simply like picking on others! I can't rule that out... I have been asked the plant question too. I have to admit, I've wondered about this. But in the end, I usually answer that while I don't know if plants can feel or think, I KNOW that animals do...and I've got to eat something! Funny you mention that... I had a boss who said that eating plants was cruel, since they couldn't run away from you, but animals could (tongue in cheek, of course). LOL! Guest guest
1. Did you join this group to help you BECOME vegetarian (or vegan) - or were you ALREADY veggie? I was already a vegan. 2. Did you join this group to be able to access the recipe Files or is that just a bonus? A splendid bonus!!! 3. Are you now or were you ever a lurker? If so, why? If not, why not? I lurk at times and occasionally I post comments. Often time restrains me. In this world Hate never yet dispelled hate Only love dispells hate. This is the law, Ancient and inexhaustible. -- the Dhammapada
