As a relatively new member I have a little question that I thought

others may have a few suggestions for me in response.

I have been a vegetarian since 1989 whose staple diet has been erring on

the side of dairy, eggs, cheese and chocolate particularly. However,

last year, I had my gall bladder removed and since then I have had

serious pain when eating chocolate so have stopped eating that (not a

big deal) but I also have begun to feel unwell after eating eggs and

having milk with cereal so am considering trying to stop eating any

dairy in my diet for a while to see if it has a positive effect on my

health.

Has anyone got any good ideas for meals, certain recipes? I would be

very grateful. I should say, I am allergic to peppers and, since my

operation, am unable to eat spicy food.

Many thanks in anticipation

Hi Squirrel,

I take it you mean to say you will be considering stopping both eggs and dairy

in your diet, right? In any case, there is no problem with recipes. Simply look

for recipes in the Files that do not have eggs or dairy - in other words, vegan

recipes. There are lots of those since many of us here are vegan, including

myself. Have a look through our Files. In those file folders marked with three

stars and as Main and Side Dishes the subject and description lines of each

recipe indicate whether they are ovo-lacto, lacto, ovo, or _vegan_ (the last

being what you will want to look out for) and some show they can be adapted.

About the spices: oh boy you have not come to the best group for that LOL but

you can often avoid the hot spices in many recipes. Not all recipes here are

spicy, however. As for peppers, well, just avoid anything with capsaicin if it

bothers you - that'd be bell peppers and all their relatives including chillies.

As above, most of the Main and Side Dishes recipes also indicate not only their

country/culture of origin (so maybe skip the ones which say they are Mexican and

perhaps most of the Indian, Sri Lankan, Thai, Indonesian, etc.) but also if they

are spicy - also in the subject line or description. For the other file folders,

you may have to glance down the ingredients list to get an idea, since we have

some work to do on those just yet. They usually, however, say if they are vegan.

Best of luck,

Pat
