*SPECIAL NOTICE* - 2nd CALL: QUESTIONNAIRE/SURVEY FOR _ALL_ MEMBERS OF THE

VEGETARIAN SPICE GROUP ON !

Since some may have missed this notice, we are repeating it here.

---

We'd like ALL members who have not filled in THIS PARTICULAR QUESTIONNAIRE (New

since June 2009 and slightly revised here) to assist your moderators by

answering the following questions. It should only take a few moments.

TO RESPOND: simply hit 'REPLY' and scroll down to each question and fill your

answers in as appropriate. But first . . .

FIRST SOME DEFINITIONS:

VEGETARIAN: abstains from eating all animal flesh (and its products such as

gelatin, stock, etc.) including creatures of the land, sea and air (e.g. 'meat',

fish/seafood and poultry/birds), but may eat eggs and/or dairy products.

VEGAN: abstains from eating all animal flesh, as above, but also abstains from

but sometimes eats fish/seafood. Pescetarians are not considered strictly

vegetarians.

OMNIVORES, NON-VEGETARIANS, ETC. - Sometimes do eat animal flesh and/or its

Iam almost a vegan.  I do occasionally eat honey and I do wear leather belts and

shoes. Although I am a great animal lover, I follow this diet for health.

- I am a vegetarian who eats eggs (Ovo-vegetarian)

- I am a vegetarian who eats dairy (Lacto-vegetarian)

- I am a vegan who eats no eggs, dairy or (usually) no honey

- I am a pescetarian (I am vegetarian except for fish/seafood)

(state which)

- I am now in transition to vegetarian or vegan (state which)

- I am interested in vegetarian food but do not plan to become vegetarian or

I am interested in vegetarian food

2. What are your reasons for choosing a vegetarian way of life? These might be

one or more of:

- Animal welfare

- Personal health and well-being X

- Weight loss

- Concern for the environment X

- Religious, spiritual and/or philosophical reasons

- Dislike of the taste of non-vegetarian food

- World economy X

- Personal economy

(Please place an X against the ones which apply)

Which one is your MAIN reason?

World economy: the world can feed more people if we don't meat.

3. Do you cook vegetarian food yourself only or also for others in your

household? What about the non-vegetarians in your household?

I cook only vegetarian and fish in the house. The other eat meat elsewhere.

4. Do you find it difficult to ensure no hidden animal ingredients are present

a restaurant or the home of friends and family?

No.

medical reasons (e.g. taking supplements or medications which have animal origin

or are encased in gelatin capsules) or other reasons? Could you give an example?

No.

6. Have you any favourite recipes which you would like to share with our group?

Are you looking for any recipes in particular?

I've shared some in the past.

7. Do you like hot and spicy food? If so, what is your favourite? If not, what

kinds of food do you enjoy?

Yes, Indian

8. Do you find you read a lot about vegetarian topics (in books, magazines, on

the web)?

not a lot

9. What is your MAIN reason for deciding to be part of our group? (eg. access to

vegetarian recipes, information about vegetarianism, support for your vegetarian

decision, chatting with like-minded people, other.)

10. What is your age group? Teens? Over 20? Over 40? Over 65?

Over 40

I'd like people who post recipes to remember that not everyone on the list is

American.

Its nice to explain what brand name ingredients are and how big a " can " or

" package " is. I can convert ounces to grams, etc. so that not a problem but

commercial package sizes vary from place to place.

Not sure if I did this or not so here we are!

THE QUESTIONS (and there are no right or wrong answers here!):

1. Which description BEST fits your situation?

- I am a vegetarian who eats both eggs and dairy (Lacto-ovo-vegetarian)

2. What are your reasons for choosing a vegetarian way of life? These might be

one or more of:

- Personal health and well-being

- Weight loss

- Personal economy

Which one is your MAIN reason?

-Health and well being

3. Do you cook vegetarian food yourself only or also for others in your

household? What about the non-vegetarians in your household?

Dr Dragon is the cook and he is happy to cook veggie dishes (indeed he rather

likes them!)

4. Do you find it difficult to ensure no hidden animal ingredients are present

in prepared foods or packaged foods you buy in a store and/or in food you eat in

a restaurant or the home of friends and family?

Luckily we don't tend to buy packaged foods because of my fatal nut allergy and

I have always been lucky with restaurants and cafes

5. Do you ever find you sometimes need to make an exception to your diet for

medical reasons (e.g. taking supplements or medications which have animal origin

or are encased in gelatin capsules) or other reasons? Could you give an example?

Drs want me to eat m or f occasionally because of the nut problem (but she is

vegetarian herself and strongly advocates a vegetarian or partial vegetarian

diet)

6. Have you any favourite recipes which you would like to share with our group?

Are you looking for any recipes in particular?

Have shared a few and love reading what comes through!

7. Do you like hot and spicy food? If so, what is your favourite? If not, what

kinds of food do you enjoy?

oooh yes! the hotter and spicier the better :-) although at the moment I have to

go for bland as I have mumps (I'm 44 and have mumps!) but as soon as possible

back to spice it is :-)

8. Do you find you read a lot about vegetarian topics (in books, magazines, on

the web)?

A member of the Vegetarian Society, have a few Rose Elliot cookbooks and always

on the lookout for more (and I love the special magazines that BBC Good Food put

out Christmas and Summer - which get read, recipes copied out and then the

magazine passed on!)

9. What is your MAIN reason for deciding to be part of our group? (eg. access to

vegetarian recipes, information about vegetarianism, support for your vegetarian

decision, chatting with like-minded people, other.)

All of the above LOL

10. What is your age group? Teens? Over 20? Over 40? Over 65?

As stated I'm 44 :-)

AND NOW Is there anything else you would like to tell us (such as your country

or region, household pets/companion animals, hobbies, activities, interests,

indoor and outdoor sports, etc.)? Let's hear it!

I'm Pagan and proud and on 5th September myself and Dr Dragon are becoming the

proud owners of a Cairn Terrier pup, hobbies are needlecraft, reading and

enjoying good food and wine!  Anything else - please ask
