Guest guest
The only thing I've figured out to do with tofu that I like is to fry it -- real healthy, I know! This is my favorite recipe: http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Breaded-Fried-Softly-Spiced-Tofu/Detail.aspx. (I hope links are ok!) My aunt has a barbecue, baked tofu recipe that is pretty good, I'll try to remember to bring it to work tomorrow to post it. Guest guest
I prefer tofu to be fried in a little oil. It gives it a chewy texture that I like. Its also the way they make it at our chinese eateries. I also like it in tofu scrambles and substituted for cottage cheese in recipes. I have marinated it before and then baked it and that turned out ok. It is very versatile. I know some on the list like to just eat it plain straight from the container but I do not enjoy it like that. Cherie " Be a blessing and you will be blessed. Guest guest
If the water is cloudy it's probably bad. Also it can smell funky - a sweetish, garbage-y smell. I usually end up keeping mine longer than the date says but if it smells or is cloudy I toss it. Not dead yet lol. Guest guest
Thank you all for the help AND the recipes! Thank you for the support offered too! I did have a neat success last night. Hubby didn't know I was cooking vegematarian! We had calzones (homemade wheat dough w mozz cheese, homemade goat cheese, chard, tomatoes, banana pepper slices and basil. We also had corn on the cob from the freezer. Later he asked if " that was one of those vegetarian kinda meals " and I said yes. His MAJOR concern then was ....... was " Don't tell me it had goat cheese in it. " He didn't complain about vegetarian..... just having his goat cheese " thing " ! Today when he had left over for lunch he also didn't complain about " vegetarian " ! I'm happy! lol We're in our late 50's and changing diets isn't easy, as habits die hard! ~*~ Shar ~*~
