Hi Crystal,

 

Welcome and congratulations on starting raw!! Going raw is the best thing

you and your son could do!! Don't worry about trying to get your son to eat

more veggies. Concentrate on getting him to eat more fruit. He will need

more calories in terms of fruits than veggies. I know that autistic kids can

have issues with food textures and frequently prefer " dry " and " crunchy "

textures, which are harder to duplicate on raw, especially when you need to

get him to eat lots of fruit. For this reason you might need to start with

some less than ideal choice like dried fruit and flax crackers with nut

butters. There is a lady on Alissa Cohen's Raw Food Talk message board that

recently started a group for parents of autistic kids who are going raw to

help cure their autism. You can go there and do a search on autism and I'm

sure you will find it. I have read of several cases where autism was greatly

improved on raw. Also, all the conditions you have will be healed on raw!!

:-) Raw is amazing! Just do it!!

lots of really great info and people here...

 

im sorry youre experiencing all of that. It really does come down to

an engine being made to run on water, sand, grease, a little gasoline

sometimes, milk, etc. And then the owner wondering why the car breaks

down.

 

cooked food can be poison. Its that simple. Some models just tolerate

it better than others. Ie. A chevy night run on sugar in the tank for

a little bit but a mercedes wouldnt even start. You and your children

might just be mercedes....8-)

Also, my son does love fruit, and that's easy to get him to eat.

However, he has yeast problems, and I've heard that flares up yeast.

Is that right?

 

I am so conditioned to eating junk. It's hard to change the taste

buds over. I really dislike the taste of raw veggies, but fruits are

ok. I almost need to go somewhere and " detox " alone. I need a

retreat or some sort of spa setting! Wouldn't that be nice?

 

Also, what do you all think about rotating foods? Is it necessary if

you're raw? I hope not, because that's really hard and we've been

trying to do it to keep my son from developing allergies. He also

hates protein, so that's a problem, too.

Also, what are the " rules " for eating raw? Proteins with every meal?

Hi Crystal

 

I'm relatively inexperienced (only three months raw), but here are my

experiences with fruit.

 

I had suffered lots of wind/'musical tummy'/'blow-up'. If you use

the 'Search' facility for 'candida' you'll find lots of messages a

couple of weeks back on yeast overgrowth. Yes, it seems that fruit

can feed the yeast (a test revealed I, in common with most of the

population possibly - have candida overgrowth). And, yes, I'd noticed

lots of burbling after eating fruit. Fermentation perhaps!

 

However, after a couple of days (I didn't have much willpower!) not

eating fruit, I just had to have it again. But what I did was limit

fruit to morning only. So I'd let the previous day's food digest

overnight, meaning my tummy was calm the next morning. I'd then eat

fruit (and fruit only) between rising and noon. The fruit would

digest quickly, ie move out of my bowels quickly (!) and - no

burbling! I'm thinking that maybe it didn't get much of a chance

to 'feed the yeast' as it was digested so quickly.

 

So I don't eat fruit now any other time than in the morning, as I

think that if I ate it, say, in the afternoon, after a non-fruit meal,

ie perhaps one including seeds, or nuts, that meal would take several

hours plus to digest, and the fruit would then sit on top of it,

being 'held up' as it were, and then it would ferment/burble...

 

Anyhow, I have no scientific knowledge, but just relating my own

experiences with candida overgrowth and fruit.

Celebrating your 50th anniversary is definately a big deal. Congratulations.

I am into the green smoothies too. Was about to give up on the raw

thing before I discovered these wonders. Thanks to this board.

 

I think the best thing I like about them (besides that they taste

good) is the portability of them. I can take them with me wherever I

go. Just need a cooler. I took a smoothie and some carrot juice

with me while I shopped this weekend. They are easy to drink while

driving and they make it easy to skip the fast food joints.

to pursue being a vegetarian is ... ideas with every meal.

 

As for my personal life .. married for almost 24 years, no kids but we do

have two cats, Buddy Holly and Sammy Hagar. They're brothers, 7 years old and

very active at times. They're great company. My job consists mainly of a desk

job but I do get around the office with filing, going to the counter, etc.

Hi Barb and welcome!

I hope you find the support and info you need here. We're a diverse crowd so

feel free to ask or discuss anything you may go through.

Being completely vegetarian will surprise you in how good you feel, if you

stick to being a healthy vegetarian (it's so easy to not eat so well even as a

veg!) and how much fun it is to create and learn new meals and dishes to enjoy.

I was aimlessly clicking around on and found your group, so here

I am.

 

I've been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for thirty years, and I'm also a food

service manager at a small private school (read: The Lunch Lady). I'm

always on the prowl for new recipes, and I may have some of my own that

are worth sharing.

manager have you had training as a dietitian? I imagine you have to serve

meat at your school.

after seeing what crap goes into cheap hamburgers ie eye balls,

ground up bone, then after a short time I put 2 and 2 together and

found out what went on in raising animals for food and the process

from beginning to end and was horrified and upset so my views changed

and its now for ethical reasons. Its funny how they keep the full

details of the animal rearing business secret

 

6/ Whereabouts do you live? London

 

7/ How good a place is it for vegans? Very good, lots of good vegan

restaurants in central London and 2 locally. Not too far from Fresh

and Wild either. Holland and Barrett in most high streets too.

Fantastic independent health food shop a short bus ride away too.

when in a meal of mixed beans. Always frightened of kidney beans not

being cooked properly so tend to avoid them just in case!

comes a close second.

 

10/ What types of film do you like? Thrillers mainly, few horrors and

This group seems to be very active. I just d and thought it

would be right to throw in some words about myself. I've been

interested in health for a few years now and I have been using some

tools to promote it. Up to now, they have been mostly emotional

healing tools like EFT, TAT, and SM, tools that I plan to continue

using. Recently I have been reading " The Live Food Factor " book by

Susan E. Schenck. I have read the first three chapters only. I have

almost zero knowledge on the raw food diet, so I come here to learn.

I'll start the change in a few days if it all still makes sense by

then.

For Optimal Health " (or is it 'optimUM'?) by Brian Clements. I get it

used often at www.half.com or www.amazon.com... It's the best one to

show others, too, who may be curious. EFT is great, btw, and can be

very helpful in dealing with cooked food addiction (or, as we learned

at CHI, getting over the smell of wheatgrass at juicing time - LOL!)

Apparently there is an overwhelming lot to learn. I'll wait to finish

what I'm reading now and try your suggestion.

 

As of now, I prefer TAT over EFT; the results might be the same, but I
