Guest guest
Hi Kim, welcome to the group and thank you for answering our questionnaire. I'm forwarding your answers to the group as a sort of introduction. Hope you will find what you are looking for here, there are lots of recipes (see Files on our website) and you can follow recent discussions via the message archive. Of course the question of availability of vegetarian/vegan products is always high on the agenda here, and as we are an international group there are lots of differences depending on where you live - interesting to hear that you plan to start a takeaway shop which will in the long term help to attack this problem. One thing we all agree about is the health advantages of a vegetarian diet, there are no serious deficiencies as a result of this diet (contrary to what some people say) and the situation in the world of meat production and distribution is anything but healthy at the moment! Best, Piers (co-owner with Pat) Kim's answers: 1. Which description best fits your situation? - I am a vegetarian who eats eggs (ovo-vegetarian) eggs and cheese are the only things i eat, everything else no. im interested in finding an alternate cheese but cant find anything anywhere. I switched to soy milk cos i found normal milk was making me sick. 2. What is your main reason for choosing a vegetarian or vegan way of life? love of animals, the environment, and i heard it was good for your health. since i changed to vegetarian i have been feeling alot better. 3. Is your household totally vegetarian? If not, do you find you need to produce non-vegetarian meals some of the time? yes i live on my own, but am more than happy to cook for non-veg visitors. many have also been keen to try and have enjoyed vegetarian food. 4. Do you like hot and spicy food? If not, what is your favourite kind of food? yes love it. 5. Is there anything else you would like to tell us (such as your country or region, age group, household pets/companion animals, hobbies, activities, interests, indoor and outdoor sports, etc.)? Let's hear it! im a general all round nice girl. like to get out have fun meet new people. im also interested in starting a vegetarian/ vegan takeaway shop as i (and im sure im not the only one) finds it hard to find places to eat that are veg friendly (especially at festivals or markets or events). Guest guest
hello thankyou Piers. happy to be a member. i have been a vegetarian since 7th september last year (24th birthday present to myself). starting plan was to just trial for 3 months and it went by so quickly that i just continued it afterwards. Hardest thing as i said was finding places to eat out at when i go anywhere (hence the veg takeaway i want to start up), either that or theyd offer vegetarian stuff but cook it on the same grill as the meat which defeats the purpose all together. Support has been pretty good. my mother has been the most accepting and has started to cook veg meals for me when i visit. bonus is my younger brothers (14 and 8) also love to eat it too, which im happy with just as long as they are eating something. Mum has also enjoyed tasting veg food and loves them even more than the meat equivalent (her favourite is my specialty dish Spagetti Bolognaise). The rest of my family are just concerned about me eating well and getting enough vitamins etc and are always trying to push me to eat meat (im sure there will be plenty more christmas dinners with them where they deliberately place the meat tray in front of me and the moans of how good the meat tastes). Being vegetarian is a bonus too as i live about 20 minutes drive from the supermarket and always was in fear of meat going yuck especially on hot days (i know im narky, but 20 minutes out of the refridgerator for meat just turned my stomach). i love cooking. always like to try new dishes. unfortunately being by myself theres noone to test them on, but if i like them they always make another appearance. my favourite things to cook are meals that are quick and easy (i dont like starving to death waiting for my meal to cook). As i said, Spagetti Bolognaise, is one of my specialties. its so versatile that it can be made so many different ways and eaten so many ways. quite a few times i have had it with spagetti, and often just on toast or bolognaise sandwich for lunch. Being by myself too i love anything freezable and made multiple meals out of (any ideas or tips would be great). anyway again thanks for the welcome. look forward to talking and meeting you all soon.
