Guest guest
Hi everyone! My name is Root (friends call me Rootsie). I have been vegan for 11 years now, and vegetarian for 8 years before that. My husband Ted has been vegan since we met 7 years ago. Our daughter Rai is 6 and she is of course a vegan too. We're from Ethiopia and we are very vocal about our veganism and animal rights activism. We live in Falls Church, Virginia and don't know any vegans or vegetarians locally. In fact, I don't think Rai has ever met another vegan kid. It can be a lonely world but we are happy living a compassionate lifestyle and we affect many around us. If you live in this area (Washington metropolitan area), please contact us! We love to cook and have people over!! Just quickly...my baby asked me if I can go to her school and talk to her class about " why milk isn't good for you " . She speaks up as she's quite knowledgeable on vegan issues and nutrition, but she's faced with ridicule and comments like " your mom is stupid and she's wrong " , which end up hurting her feelings. I'm working on a presentation with an environmental theme and I'm trying to keep it as " politically correct " as possible so as not to offend or anger any of the kid's parents. Have any of you run into this and do you have any suggestions? It's becoming more and more important for Rai to defend the lifestyle choice that her parents have made for her. She's a kid and she shouldn't have to go through this but we all know that kids can be mean to each other. Your comments would be tremendously appreciated! Peace and One Love!
