Guest guest
Hi all! My name is Christine, I'm 46 years old and from Palouse, WA. I've been a vegetarian for 24 years; I was vegan for about 7 years at the start - my husband and I met and were married on The Farm, which was a vegan community in Tennessee. We have five children who have been vegetarians all their lives (two born on The Farm, none born in a hospital), ages 22, 21, 16, 12 and 8. Djuna, my kids and I are also Christians and have met many who try to convince us that it's OK to eat meat. My reply to them is that I feel called by God to a lifestyle of nonviolence and vegetarianism; it may not be their calling, but I don't think they should be trying to talk me out of mine. Most respect our convictions after some discussion. Have you heard of the Christian environmental group called Target Earth? They had a booth at Creation West where I went with our church youth group last week, and I picked up a sticker to put on my car that says " God's original plan was to hang out in a garden with some naked vegetarians. " I went back to college when I was 32 years old and finished a Ph.D. in nutrition 5 years ago. I'm working as a research associate at Washington State University and my research mainly involves vitamin B-6 requirements. I also get some resistance from meat- and milk-promoting colleagues, and those who do research on animals other than humans (which I refuse to do). I would add my voice to those who already suggested that giving young children too much fruit juice will suppress their appetites. I think 8-12 oz per day will provide enough vitamin C and leave room in their diet for other things they need. I also think giving multivitamins is not a bad idea. I'm pleased to be a part of this group! Christine ------------ This message was sent by First Step Internet. http://www.fsr.net/
