Guest guest
Hello! I have been a vegetarian for nine years, my husband for six years (though he eats seafood occasionally when we go out to eat). Our daughters are Annabelle (who will be 3 next month) and Willow (who is 3 months old). I am currently trying to make the switch over to being vegan. I have tried before and failed. We are taking it slowly this time and so far it has not been a big deal. What I am having a harder time with is avoiding using things like wool, silk, beeswax. How can I find and use more natural fiber materials from plant sources? Any ideas? I cringed over the in-laws story. We just abruptly ended a vacation with my parents last night. We were supposed to be together for a week and ended up leaving after 3 nights. They just don't respect the choices we have made for our family that are different form their way. I live in Virginia Beach and it is a pretty friendly atmosphere out here, " you just gotta poke around " ! I am lucky to be involved in a mom's group here that supports natural family living and they are a fantastic support system. I am glad to also now have this group online. Peace, Angela
Guest guest
Wow, the in-law story sure stirred up a lot of comments. My name is Mary and I have a daughter,Sierra, who is 21 1/2 months and a son due in 3 weeks. We too are in that vegetarian/vegan category. My husband, Tim, is vegetarian, for the most part,at home only. We live in Baltimore. I can't stand the smell of meat being cooked and he respects that. We don't eat eggs and use Rice Dream but will occasionally use cheese. I just find the total vegan diet too boring. Anyway, I thought I had it bad with my family not making anything vegetarian at family gatherings. I guess I should count my blessings that no one has tried to feed my daughter meat, at least not yet. I don't suspect that anyone will. They don't understand my choices but don't give me a hard time about it either. I think I would have been furious in the same situation and would have walked out as well.
