Guest guest
Greetings! My daughter proclaimed herself a vegetarian about 3 years ago. It wasn't a surprise to me that she was headed that way. Even as a baby she never liked beef. I ended up wearing more than she ever ate. Gradually over her childhood she has given up chicken, turkey and now has begun to read labels to check for animal by-products in her foods. At this point she still eats dairy and eggs. I have respected her choice, but it's been tough. To show my support of her and of other blended families [veg-nonveg], I'm working on an article for a local parenting magazine to offer parents some advice and encouragement. My daughter has gotten some negative comments from extended family members regarding her choice to be a vegetarian. I usually shut it down by telling them that we're supporting her and it is her decision what she eats - so long as it is healthy. Guest guest
Hi, My name is Heather and I am new to this group. I have been a vegetarian for 3 months and recently my seven year old daughter Ivy became one 2 weeks ago. I am so proud of her for making such agrown up decision. She is very smart for her age. I guess we both need support now though, since some people feel that she should not do it. I thought I would find the both of us support hopefully this group is a start Heather
Guest guest
My son (who just turned 9) decided about 5 months ago that he is a vegetarian. My husband and I fully support him even though we are not vegetarians. Thanks for the cookbook suggestions in your other post. I would also be interested in reading your article when you finish it. We have been lucky so far with family members and Kevin's decision. My family while not vegetarians are very conscious of what they eat. We do not see my inlaws as often and will be at a family party in a couple of weeks but I don't expect that it will be terrible. (I feel terrible for the family who had to deal with the scene where a family member fed their child a piece of meat.) My son is pretty outspoken and will tell everyone why he made his decision and what changes he has made in his diet to make sure that he is getting all the nutrients that he needs. We will also make it clear that we support him. Thanks Deb - Lang <stargazer Friday, August 04, 2000 8:51 AM Mother of a Vegetarian Pre-teen > Greetings! > > My daughter proclaimed herself a vegetarian about 3 years ago.
