Guest guest
Well, I FINALLY finished reading ALL those emails!!! I'm very inspired to know you all are out there! I'm curious to know if there are ANY vegan families in the Dallas area? I am 39, have three daughter (7, 5, and 3) who have always been vegan. My husband is also vegan. I can somewhat relate to some of the sitations with family (mainly just being grossed-out to be around it...no one has offered my kids meat or anything, they know better! they know me! smile) I'm interested to know how other people are doing with their kids being vegan in public school. There are some vegetarians in the school, but (with all due RESPECT) it's different (and a much more conspicuous position for the the child) being vegan and not eating cake and ice cream, cheese pizza etc. I'm interested to know if anyone has gotten vegan ice cream into the school. I'm going to be meeting with the principal (she doesn't know it yet. smile) to see about having tofutti " ice cream " sandwiches, soy delicious fudge bars, and rice dream frozen treats offered at the school...mainly for my kids (so they can enjoy " ice cream " at school along with their friends at lunchtime)... but also as a dairy-free option for the other kids. I'll probably contact the companies next week to see if they'll offer a discount of if they are already in any schools anywhere. I still pack their lunches everyday and don't feel prepared to tackle the whole cafeteria thing yet. (Although, I would feel a lot more inspired if I had a vegan friend (besides my husband) to go with me!) When I became vegan 14 years ago I was the only one I knew at the time and that was fine, but now that I have kids I really long for a vegan world for all the right reasons... and also so they don't always feel so odd. I never realized what a big part of life food really is(...It's getting old going to all these bithday parties and bringing a seperate treat for them or " running interference " ...letting teachers know, having snacks on me at all times, the constant explaining... My daughters want to be vegan, they know why they are...but I think they really WONDER if there ARE other vegan children! Sorry this was so long. So, is anyone out there in the Dallas area? (Actually, Plano)...feel free to email. Jackie
