The diapers I used & loved were Kushies. They have

the built in waterproof outside, so they're not

holding wetness in onto baby's skin like the seperate

vinyl liners do(and come in solid or prints, the

prints are much more attractive than disposables).

They velcro (the pins on my baby were too scary for

me!). They have like 6 layers of flannel- very good,

no leaks! I found many companies sold them at

different prices, I don't remember what I paid or

where I bought them, but would be glad to look it up

if anyone's interested. I know the Kushies brand were

very reasonable. I had to use disposables for when he

went to the babysitter, but I just used Huggies.

Many of the co. in Mothering will sale you just one if you want to try it.I

have used the diaper services and bought and washed my own. Washing is no

problem at all.but the services was very nice out went the dirty and lovely

clean ones came, it was great. One time I took them on a week camping trip in

a motor home.I always used pins never had any trouble I could even change at

night without turning on a light.I still have DD's old diapers that I will

someday use for moon rags.It is funny how diapers can came to be so sweet to

a Mommy. No one loves those nasty throwaway ones. RainingStar

When I lived in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (about 4 years ago now) I used

a cloth diaper service. One of their services was a pick-up of

disposable diapers - they would then send them off to be recycled. I

believe at that time it cost about $5 a week for this service. Perhaps

that is something worth checking into for some folks.

Do you know how they were recycled?! I've never heard of such a thing. I

would think that any paper product that is soiled with feces would be

impossible to recycle...

I am not sure where they were recycled, not in Portsmouth though. I do

remember that they were sent off to a recycling plant somewhere. It seems

like possibly it was up in Canada. I just remember my friend there in

Portsmouth who had twins and used the diaper service for the recycling of

the dispsables.

I would love to know where you got them. I've been searching for a good brand, and have found nothing but leakers :)!

most companies also have seconds that can lead to quite a bit of savings.

proraps covers are really good with prefolds and if you call the company the

seconds are quite cheap. the savings from diapers really add up, as well if you

are done having children most diapers have a pretty good resell value on ebay.

i am not a prefold fan so we went with fitteds (one size), we spent about $200

on the system and it would have been enough for us all the way through, i did

get more diapers to try other kinds. at 2 years old the diapers are still like

new and will easily make it through several more children, all told over the

years i have spent about $400 total, alot of that was planning for 2 in diapers

at the same time.

Have you checked ebay for cloth diapers? I bought a bunch of them there for

a fairly low price. I also knit and have made some wool soakers for my son,

but I also have some cheapo covers that work great from Dappi, they are only

a couple of bucks a piece and they work! You can always start with prefolds

and pins, they aren't that expensive, then slowly build your stash of the

nicer ones. We have saved tons with using cloth>

And if you don't resell, old diapers make wonderful dusting rags. Better than

anything I have ever used, actually. But you only need a few for that.

can find them at www.hipbaby.com it is a canadian web site so the prices are

in canadian dollars..(I bought everything at the store and have not

navigated the web site myself)
