Guest guest
Thanks again. No, I don't smoke. I have been sick most of my life. I had spinal meningitis when I was two weeks old and nearly died. I just feel I don't have a great immune system. I have allergies galore (outdoors and animals-my favorite ones to be around!) and asthma from having pneumonia 3 times. It just seems whatever is going around, I get it and I hate it. I am 46 years old and overweight as well...I have lost almost 50 pounds and am still working on it. I am better than I used to be health wise but still have a way to go.I take asthma and blood pressure medicines. I am very active as well...I am determined to live and have the best life I can. I work with children mainly and animals (as a volunteer at the local zoo). I tried allergy shots and after two years, I just didn't make it to maintance...just kept getting sick...the pneumonia came during this period. I appreciate any and all help. I would like to know about macrobics. I avoid dairy products and drink soy drink. Guest guest
Hi Kate! Your life situation is very inspirational to those of us who are healthy and have had very few ailments in our lives. I, for one, feel very fortunate and lucky. I know this is easy for me to say, especially since I don't have to walk in your shoes, but, positive thinking goes a long way with me. Everyday, I tell myself, " I am not going to be sick. I am going to be healthy, I am going to kick some ass today. " I rarely ever get sick ... colds are hard to come by ... the only thing I have, and I have had it for about 12 years now, is allergies to dust and cats ... Being active is great ... however .. I think that being in our cities is what causes this sort of allergies and the like. I was told by a number of people that we, in Toronto, have one of the highest rates of allergies in North America. It could be because of the food we eat ... it could be because of the environment ... so, there is little we can do to deter allergies, I think. In my opinion, I think that there is nothing more sure than a vegan diet ... I have read so much shit that makes eating or drinking any dairy seem ludicrous ... I mean, it's such an unnatural act .... the fact that we drink milk beyond our weaning years .. or that we drink the milk of another species ... but, it's more than that ... I think it creates illnesses in people ... it introduces an unnatural element into our bodies.. Here is a quote from a Milk Article I have from the Toronto Star - Feb 11/95 " Virtually every major allergy study implicates milk and dairy products as the leading food allergen. According to a prominent Toronto allergist, 70% of patients improve by simply avoiding milk for a trial period of two weeks. Their symptoms - which range from migraine headaches, post nasal drip, recurrent ear infections, gastrointestinal problems to asthma - improve or disappear. " So, keep eating well ... lots of greens ... don't forget to get Vitamin C in with your greens, as our bodies need it to absorb the iron well from the greens ... I am not big on vitamins, but I am sure that taking them everyday must ensure you maintain your levels ... I don't take b12 because I think it comes from animals ... not sure about that .. but I have been told by so many people ... Chant and Be Happy for Hare Krishna ... Break out your Booty for Buddha and Jump for Jesus! Guest guest
Hi. I'm new to the list. I'm a single parent to be through adoption. Waiting til next summer to go to China and start my family. I have been mostly lacto-ovo vegetarian for almost 30 years, have cut back a lot on dairy and eggs and get near veganism but have trouble fully committing. I want to raise a healthy and ethically oriented child, so I think getting my own act together about veganism now will help. Any suggestions on books (mostly recipe and nutrition oriented - I know the ethical arguments - also kids books) and other internet based supports? I'm also very interested in attachment parenting and plan to have a family bed. I do need to work to support us, but I hope to find a loving child care provider who shares similar values. Thanks for any help! Bea
