Guest guest
Hello all, I have a 6 month old vegan son, Jordan, and I am running out of ideas for food for him. he has cereal in the morning, usually fruit for breakfast and veggies for tea. For fruit I usually puree bananas, pears, and apples, and veggies he has so far are pureed pumpkin, potato, carrot, broccoli (usually all together, or at least 2 blended together - depends what we have in the house at the time). He has also just started to like mashed avocado. We would greatly appreciate any ideas for other combinations or other foods that I could try him on. We have yet to start on couscous, pasta etc - not sure if he his old enough yet. Thanks everyone! Guest guest
Hi- There is a great book called, The New Vegetarian Baby, that I have been using. You can get the book from Amazon.com. I have an eight month old. We have tried all kinds of fruits, bananas, peaches, plums, apples, pears, mangoes, etc. For veggies I have used broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, squash (acorn and butternut), sweet potatoes, green beans, and peas. I make all his food from organic fruits and veggies, and he loves them. I generally try not to mix the foods all the time. I want him to experience different flavors. Quinoa is a great grain that's high in iron and you can feed it to him as you would cereal. Just run it through a food processor and make as you would cereal. I hope that helps. Guest guest
my son all so liked sweet potatoes, banna, strawberrie and kiwi together, blueberrie and apples. i got a big jar of applesauce and froze it in icecube trays to blend with other fruit, its allso good blended in sweet potatoes.you could try squash, cauliflower, peas and sting beans pureed up to. green veggies are important. or try mashed turnipsmixed with mashed potatoes. i wouldn't worrie to much about variety i don't think little ones like that get bored with there food to much yet. its still new. i'm sure you know to do one food a week to watch for allergies. esp with strawberries. good luck i hope this helps. blessed be Natalie & Steve <bngroovy wrote: Hello all,I have a 6 month old vegan son, Jordan, and I am running out of ideas for food for him. he has cereal in the morning, usually fruit for breakfast and veggies for tea. Guest guest
yes he's old enough for pasta couscous etc my dd (now 18 months) loved tiny pasta hoops like a mini version of the spaghetti hoops you get in tins. She also started to really like baked beans, marmite, toast & chunks of soft fruit like banana at this age. A huge favourite was risotto - arborio rice cooked in a sauce of tomatoes finely chopped carrots & spinach with peas added too. I froze it in little pots & she ate it every time! hth feel free to e-mail direct if I can help Emma Shaw - " Natalie & Steve " <bngroovy <VeganMamas >; " vegetarianbaby " <vegetarianbaby >; " veggiemums " <veggiemums >; 22 November 2000 08:07 need new ideas > Hello all, > > I have a 6 month old vegan son, Jordan, and I am running out of ideas for food for him. he has cereal in the morning, usually fruit for breakfast and veggies for tea. Another good one is " Feeding the Whole Family " , by Cynthia (?) Lair. That one has suggestions for adapting each of her recipes for babies between six months and a year ... I agree with you about waiting with the wheat products, but how about lentil soup? Mine loved it as babies (although neither will touch it now 8-(). Be well, Hadass
