Guest guest
Help! I know this is not a breastfeeding group but I do have a question regarding weaning my 18 month old. If you are/were a nursing mom who has weaned a baby will you send me your email so I can ask you my questions. This way I do not have to pose it to the whole group. Please reply to: deb_proen THANKS :-) _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

Guest guest
Have you tried the book 'How Weaning Happens' by LLL? Good book. We have an 11 month old who is nowhere close to weaning, but I read the book anyway. I highly recommend it. Is there a reason why you want to wean? Two years is not unreasonable. Most of the kids I know weaned by 2 and just a couple kept nursing until 3 years old. Most of the time they wean themselves. Just my 2 cents. I have " The Nursing Mother's Guide to Weaning " , and also " Mothering Your Nursing Toddler " . I haven't been to LLL meetings in a while, although I used to be heavily involved with them. Just as a data point, my older son finally agreed to wean on his fourth birthday. Somebody's got to fill out that curve 8-). > Mom to Parker (CHD, born 2/00, cloth diapering, attachment parenting, vegan) What does CHD mean? BTW, Linda, could I beg of you to trim your sig a bit? It is generally considered good netiquette not to exceed four or five lines in length. Be well, Hadass
Guest guest
Hadass, Sorry about the sig, I try to set it to 'none' when posting to groups...sometimes I forget. :-) CHD is congenital hear defect. Four years nursing...very cool! I am a little scared to say too much about extended nursing because the local DCFS took a mother's child away because he was still nursing at five years old. Very scary. They claim he was being 'forced' to nurse and since they view the breast as a 'sexual organ' it was considered abuse. My son pretty much eats off my plate and he has never had trouble growing (he is MUCH healthier than most kids I know...especially for a CHD kid). He loves spicy foods and even eats raw garlic (his idea not mine). I avoid peanuts and soy (it would be tough to have a vegan kid allergic to soy). He eats Thai, Indian, Mexican, Chinese, Ethiopian, etc. I can tell by his diapers that he still gets most of his nutrients from breastmilk, but he loves to eat. Linda PS Better Than Peanut Butter and Jelly is a good cookbook for kids Healthy Cooking for Kids great vegan cookbook

Oh my. Has he had/will he be having surgery? I have lots of experience with babies and surgery, unfortunately, we can talk offline if you want. My younger son has just had his fourth (and please G-d, last) surgery for repair of a giant omphalocele (birth defect in which the abdominal wall fails to form properly and some of the organs develop outside the body). > > Four years nursing...very cool! Last I heard the judge gave him back to her with supervision, and it was clear that the real issue wasn't the breastfeeding at all. But I never set out to nurse for four years, it just happened that way ... They claim he was > being 'forced' to nurse and since they view the breast as a 'sexual organ' > it was considered abuse. Yeah yeah. Those people are sick. But this is getting OT ... > > My son pretty much eats off my plate and he has never had trouble growing > (he is MUCH healthier than most kids I know...especially for a CHD kid). I think my older son might be just about ready ... Be well, Hadass
