I have seen a lot of questions about raising a vegetarian or vegan

baby/child. I am a vegetarian (almost vegan), and my 14 month old is

also a vegetarian(almost vegan). I just became one when he was

starting solids, and he has always been vegetarian. He loves to eat,

and we use the Super Baby Food book (2nd edition), by Ruth Yaron.

This book is filled with everything you need to know about

baby/toddler nutrition, health, and food preparation. It has lots of

recipes and valuable information on making your own baby and toddler

food (6 months-4 years old). There is so much information on

nurtrition, especially when and what foods to introduce to your

baby. This is important to avoid possible food allergies or

sensitivities. The book is mainly vegetarian, but there is about 3

pages on preparing meat for those that really want to feed their

kid's meat. The author only included meat preparation to help ensure

proper cooking and storing of meat. The book does state that meat is

not needed in a baby/child's diet, and that a child would be

healthier without meat.

The recipes are so easy. Making baby food is super easy

especially if you batch cook and freeze(put food in ice cube trays,

take them out and put in a freezer container, then take out as many

food cubes as needed at mealtime). I always have a bunch of baby food

ready for my son, and it seems to be easier, neater, and healthier.

My baby has not been sick at all from birth. He has never had

the usual baby ailments such as diarrhea, ear infections, or colds. I

am phasing out dairy and eggs especially since my son doesn't like to

eat them.

Veggie Kids

Dear Lesley

This is to follow up our telephone conversation this eveningto ask for your

help.

We are making a children's television documentary series for Children's ITV

(working title, 'Kids In Action') and hope to find a vegetarian child for

one episode.

The idea for this is that a vegetarian aged 10-12 persuades the rest of

his/her meat-eating family to give up eating meat for a week and we follow

what happens. We hope to film this for a few days from 3rd January, i.e the

last few days of the forthcoming school Christmas holiday.

Eric Rowan has made many children's programmes for over 25 years and was

Executive Producer at CBBC until 3 years ago. All statutory requirements are

followed in our productions such as child licensing, health and safety, etc.

This programme idea has only just come up and I am afraid that time is of

the essence, so I would be grateful if

as discussed, you could post this information in the hope that anybody who

is interested will contact us ASAP. If anyone would like to get in touch,

they may email us with their relevant information at

mail or call on 020 7440 5371, office hours. We would

also appreciate it if any child who is interested asks for parental

permission first.

I thank you for your time.
