Guest guest
[How many others are a similar situation i.e. whole family not vegetarian.] Even though it's been a week since this posted, I thought I'd finally get around to responding! My son is a strict vegetarian like me. He just turned 3. My husband is not a vegetarian. He has definitely cut back - a Lot since we've been together. When we first met, he did not eat pig and was " weaning " out cow. He eats some fish and occasionally chicken. Only strict vegetarian foods are kept in our house. When eating out, my husband sometimes consumes fish or chicken. You can almost bet on it that he'll get something with cheese too. (Why I don't know - he gets stomach aches from it after...) There have been Many occasions where he orders tofu as well. I remember so many times where we'd order our dishes, they'll be served, and he always thought my food looked more appealing - well, I guess it's rubbed off. Hubby has no idea how to cook but told me if I'd start teaching him, he'd " wean " out chicken.... Well, how could I ever say no to that?!?! I can understand how people who choose to be vegetarian for health reasons can still prepare animal products for others. For me, that would be impossible to do because this is not only my diet, but lifestyle. Minor breakthrough: My son's birthday was celebrated last weekend. Everyone Loved the cake! They were surprised I had made the cake with strict vegetarian ingredients. My father (Mr. Meat and Potatoes) said it was the best 'vegan' thing he's tasted yet! These small comments are Big compliments in my family! They whisper to each other about everything that may be vegetarian. " Are those 'real' Fritos? " lol When my family got together for Thanksgiving, I brought a vegetable side dish (brussel sprouts with chestnuts) and a cake for dessert. Good thing because that's all I was able to eat!!!! Even all the mashed potatoes, corn, squash - you name it, it had animal products in it!! (I've been a strict vegetarian for over a decade, you'd think they'd get the hint it's not a " phase " ) LOL -and they wonder why we usually vacation during the holiday!! ;D Well, it's story time for my little guy. Have a great night everyone! ~gv
