Guest guest
Any recommendations for web sites that lists natural/homeopathic/herebal remedies? My daughter just had a NASTY cold and I would like to be better prepared. Thanks, Linda
Guest guest
As a physician, trained in some forms of alternative medicine, I must first warn not to neglect serious medical conditions. Although my own children benefit from constitutional homeopathy, osteopathic medicine, Trager massage and craniosacral therapy, to name a few... I am the one to take the kids to the E.R. or have cultures done, because of my concern for missing something important in my enthusiasm for more healthful alternatives. You don't want to miss a meningitis. I also don't want antibiotics used unnecessarily, either...but they have their place. That being said...there is an incredible remedy for colds in babies and toddlers who are breast feeding (or have breast milk available?). Take breast milk and put eight drops in each nostril. The babies sniff it up. It lubricates the nasal passages and provides immunoglobin where it is needed. A pediatrician friend with extensive experience with this taught it to me. Decongestants give limited short term relief, but dry the nasal passages and thicken mucous (can't flow anymore!). Those silly suction bulbs only annoyed an already upset child. I have seen the nasal breast milk used only one time myself...it was miraculous, though. Some of the homeopathic cold or flu remedies are great, too. Not all are vegan, though. Oscillococcinum is incredible for flu symptoms, they melt away if taken with first symptoms of flu; however, it is made with duck heart and liver. This was investigated, and I read that they use one duck a year in the production (it is an ultradilution, remember). Cold calm is also beneficial, but I am not sure what it is made of...I believe that it is vegan. Best of luck, I know having a sick kid is hard. Guest guest
I have found some great books on Natural Medicine for children. One is called Your Natural Child and has alternative therapies for children up to three years. Another is called Natural Remedies for Babies and Children by Pamela Aldridge (an Australian Book). Homeopathic remedies are safe for children and work very effectively. My daughter is eighteen months old, has not been vaccinated and has only been sick a couple of times. The first time was a bad cold and I treated her with homeopathic remedies and she recovered quickly. The second time she had a fever on and off for a few days, then developed a cough. I She was still breastfeeding regularly and eating plenty and her energy levels were as normal, so I just kept an eye on her. The cough got worse and I treated her again =with homeopathy. In a couple of days the cough cleared up and she developed a rash for a couple of days. I later talked to my mentor ( I have been studying homepathy and herbal medicine), who seemed to think she may have had a mild case of the measles. Whatever it was she coped well with it and didn't need too much " treatment " . I think a lot of the time parents are made to feel guilty if they dont give their children some " medicine " evry time they are a little under the weather. Ruby has had a runny nose a few times, but I don't even count that as being sick. She doesn't need to take anything, just time for her body to fight off the infection. Our children are so precious. We need to keep them safe from harmful and unneccessary drugs.
