Guest guest
Hi Kathleen! I'm catching up on my email (didn't check it even once on the last trip, so it's pretty backed up!). While importing the Veg-Recipes digest 126, I noticed that the Spicy Peanut Sauce was included twice, but the Sesame Dipping Sauce you listed wasn't included. It sounds delicious, so if you do have that one formatted, would you mind sending it to either me or the list? Thanks so much for all your sharing! I like everything you post; it appears we have similar tastes, except I think I'm more of a chile-head than you. I'm hoping to get caught up soon so I share some recipes, too. Guest guest
>I have been asked the plant question too. I have to admit, I've wondered >about this. But in the end, I usually answer that while I don't know if >plants can feel or think, I KNOW that animals do...and I've got to eat >something! Susan I have also been asked about " murdering " plants or broccoli screaming when you pick it (really!) on numerous occasions, and I have started replying with an answer based on the following (in addition to pointing out that studies of plants have never shown a nervous system that could feel pain): " I am trying to eat a diet that has the gentlest impact on the earth, animals, humans, etc. " You can follow with any of the following points if necessary: Eating a plant-based diet is the healthiest for all beings and the earth; it saves soil, rainforests, natural resources, water, etc.; it allows for much more food to be available for those who go hungry (if only international politics and farm subsidies, read meat and dairy " farms, " didn't get in the way! ~sigh~); animal agriculture facts, etc., etc., I'm sure you all know all about this stuff! ;-) I read that somewhere or other and I thought it sounded great! Guest guest
>Does anyone else have favorite vegetarian books, videos, etc... for >children? I haven't run across much beyond the Victor books and the >Simpsons episode... susan I'm sure there are plenty out there, but one is on my mind right now, it is " Hope. " The story is from Farm Sanctuary, but I forget who published it... I found it at Barnes and Noble.com once (in a gift set with a little stuffed " Hope " ), but I actually bought it at Farm Sanctuary. It is a nicely illustrated children's story of one of the first pigs that was rescued and lived at Farm Sanctuary. It does touch upon the factory farm conditions and the cruel treatment of the animals, but in a gentle way for kids. Definitely something that could get a discussion going, if you were so inclined. It has a marvelously happy ending and is really an adorable story. Just my 2 cents! Jennifer
Guest guest
I'm just curious if there's any consideration re: gay and lesbian singles for this and any other events in the veg community that are specified as singles events -- given the consideration of the married couples level of comfort at a 95% singles event, why not also speak to it being inclusive of the 10-20% (or more in SF) of the population that is gay and lesbian veg and single? Guest guest
Of the twenty or so people who went to the organic veg. sushi dinner, at least three were queer. I used to organize lesbian vegetarian get togethers with a friend but we never had more than 9 women show up. I wonder if a mixed veg. lgbt event would work out well?
