Can anyone give me any ideas on healthful meals and snacks I could pack for an

unexpected trip? I have an 8,6,2 & 3 year old. I would really appreciate any

ideas. It is a five hour drive with little or no stops. We will be leaving

Saturday and have to return Sunday. Yuck! Five hours there and Five hours back

with four kiddos! I want to bring something not too messy, but healthy. Any

ideas? Thanks so much!

Renee,

We often travel with dried fruit, pretzils, cereals, soymilk, roasted

soybeans, sunflower seeds, peanutbutter and bread to make quick

sandwiches, carrot sticks, etc...It's sort of like preparing to go

camping! Sometimes you can even get a motel with a refrigerator in your

room. sp

Here's some I've used:

Cold cooked pasta, baby carrots (they're already peeled), your own gorp

(whatever mixture of cereal, dried fruit, nuts & possibly coated

chocolate -- like M & Ms -- you like), grapes, pretzels, garbanzo beans

(chickpeas), any juice boxes should be transferred into some type of

sippy cup or cup with flip-up straw before drinking (trust me -- those

juice boxes are a menace), crackers & already-cut-up cheese (soy or

otherwise). Bring a small cooler, and you've got a little more leeway

on what you can offer.

Bring at least one thing that your children consider to be a special

" treat " , even if it means bringing something kind of junky.

Hope this helps,

Liz
