Guest guest
There are scientific reasons why a human body is designed to be a vegetarian. let us start with the mouth. We do not have canine teeth like the tiger or lion or a dog. We cannot just jump on an animal and tear it apart either with our paws or our teeth. Most of these animals sweat with their tongues, and do not have pores on the skin. We do not. They also have small salivary glands in the mounth, not needed to pre-digest grains and fruits, which we have and share with other vegetarian animals. Our saliva is alkaline while non-veg animals saliva is acidic. The meat-eating animals do not have the flat back molar teeth to grind food, and have much stronger acid in the stomach to digest tough animal muscle etc. Intestinal tract of a non-veg animal is only 3 times the body size, while ours is 6 times long. This information with many other reasons cited is available in the chapter Vegetarianism: A means to Higher end Page 19 to 35 of a book by Bhaktivedanta Book Trust, Los Angeles, The Book of Vegetarian Cooking. The telephone number to get this book in your area would be - 3764 Watseka Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90034; tel: 213-836-2676 or Canada 416-922-5415. My friend Trin told me about this group (thanks Trin! I have two sons ages 2 1/2 and 4, and have a wonderful husband over over 10 years. My wonderful husband however, is a meat eater. He has gotten to where he wants to buy local, organic instead of the cheap stuff (whee.) - but despite years of the information that I continue to give to him about animal cruelty, the environment, health and now mad cow - it has not dulled his passion for meat. It's getting really, really hard for me to live with. My oldest son was a vegan, but the last 8 months or so, my husband has been encouraging his meat eating even though my son doesn't really even like it. I want to give him more information about animal cruelty without emotionally devastating him at such a young age. Any suggestions (for hubby or sons!) would be greatly appreciated! <smile> take care Beth

It *would* be a good approach to explaining the physiological reasons to my sons as they get old enough to understand. Thanks for your reply Beth

I need it for my hard headed family member who thinks meat is the only way to go.
