I have read that the " supportive " shoes actually hinder the natural development of the foot. I also read that the healthiest feet are on people in Africa that don't wear shoes. We hardly ever put shoes on Colin (16months) unless he is outside to protect his feet fromt the elements. Unfortuately, I haven't been able to find any soft shoes for playing outside that aren't made of leather, there are many that are made with leather though. Guest guest
Hi all, I've been lurking for ages, but I'm looking for some advice from likeminded people. My 14 month old daughter has been walking for about 3 months now. So far, she's been wearing soft shoes from Mothercare etc. But, I'm wondering if the time has come for supportive shoes. My problem here in the UK is that first baby shoes are all leather - which, I would rather we don't wear. Obviously, I want her feet to be supported properly as I know it's important for their development. Any thoughts, experiences, suggestions. I think the idea that feet need to be " supported properly " is a myth. My five kids ran around barefoot as much as possible and wore cheap tennis shoes the rest of the time. No dire consequences as far as I know (they range in age from 9-23 years). Christine " God's original plan was to hang out in a garden with some naked vegetarians. Guest guest
I have four children. Only one of my children needed supportive shoes. He had very wide chuncky feet and the only way he could walk around (without taking constant tumbles) was with the supportive shoes. He can now wear regular shoes since he has grown bigger, (he's three now) The others all wore regular tennis shoes or went barefoot. - " mo " <endemoniada1 Thursday, March 29, 2001 4:31 AM Non leather baby shoes > > Hi all, > I've been lurking for ages, but I'm looking for some > advice from likeminded people. > My 14 month old daughter has been walking for about 3 > months now. Guest guest
Our kids wore shoes late and as little as possible. We still avoid them unless we are going outside where the feet need protection or we have to socially acceptable. I always attribute my lack of ingrown toenails, bunions, etc...to going barefoot or wearing simple canvas sneakers or sandles, although I don't know if that's true. If you ask my mother's generation, though, they were told by their pediatricians to support the feet. But my feet are fine and so are my kids'. I find the cheap plastic character sneakers my son favors unappealing because I wonder if they " breathe', but he is happy and he spends plenty of time with them off, sooo... susan ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
