Guest guest
My family is going to be vacationing in Orlando within the next few weeks. Is anyone familiar with any veg-oriented grocers in the area? (I'm thinking of a Wild Oats type of store, which we have near our home town in the US) Also, does anyone have any thoughts on how I can find veg restaurants there? Thanks for your help! Missy, an American in England looking forward to the Florida sun! fuson7
Guest guest
I'm also going to Orlando this summer, and I will be taking my 20-month-old son with me. I'm also interested in info on health food-type grocery stores. Also, does anyone have a good list of vegetarian/vegan restaurants in that area? Thanks. Guest guest
Why don't you join any of the dozen or so e-mail lists for Florida vegetarians: Veg-FL -- http://waste.org/regveg/ 1SFLVegFamilies (AT) Groups (DOT) com www.Groups.com SoFlaVeganDinners (AT) Groups (DOT) com www.Groups.com Veg-Jax (AT) Groups (DOT) com www.Groups.com VegSocietySWFlorida (AT) Groups (DOT) com www.Groups.com FloridaVegetarians (AT) Groups (DOT) com www.Groups.com And there might be some at www.Topica.com and other list host portals. In addition, there ARE a few websites which list vegetarian restaurants: www.VegDining.com www.VRG.org http://old.veg.org/Guide/USA/Florida/index.html -- out of date, but interesting and useful, anyway (Woefully out of date, but possibly good.) In a pinch, you can join the Vegetarian Resource Group's Guide to Natural Foods Restaurants, which might be out of date from the time it's release, based on the time it takes to produce such a great book, but surely it's never more than 10-15% out of date. Given the frequency of restaurants failing financially, this is a really good degree of currency. I've been a restaurant manager a few times, and we see eateries come and go, and sometimes, in the Boston Vegetarian Society, we don't know from week to week whether or not a vegetarian-friendly restaurant will go out of business soon (or at all). Oh, and come visit our group's website: www.BostonVeg.org and do visit the websites of the North American Vegetarian Society -- NAVS -- www.NAVS-Online.org and the Vegetarian Union of North America -- VUNA -- www.IVU.org/VUNA and the International Vegetarian Union -- IVU -- www.IVU.org/VUNA/ You might find some local vegetarian groups that you'd like to tap. Guest guest
Hi << My family is going to be vacationing in Orlando within the next few weeks. All I can say is .... good luck. The whole city is like the Junk Food Capital of the world. There are some vegetarian Indian restaurants in the area, but other than that.... salad city. I did see one natural grocer... it was in Orlando by um... this strip mall called Dr. Phillips, way out at Apopka Vineland (SR 535) and Sand Lake Rd, very upscale area. There is a Winn Dixie and an Albertson's in that shopping center, and a natural food cafe and store there. I forget the name of it. If you are staying in a hotel, they will have the phone book and you can look it up in there. Or you can take a drive out there (it's kind of out of the way of the Disney - Universal area.... but worth it).
Guest guest
Go to vegsource.com and there is a place to click on about vacationing and all you do is send in an email of a city and ask what you are looking for, be it grocery store or restaurants and the lady replys with a great list!! I did it for the city that I live in! Give it a try Jo-Ann , " Bob and Missy Fuson " <fuson7@b...> wrote: > My family is going to be vacationing in Orlando within the next few weeks. > Is anyone familiar with any veg-oriented grocers in the area?
