Lisa,

Well put! I agree totally. People used to call me vegetarian back when I

just didn't eat mammals! I corrected them, but most people didn't get it.

I think it is important for vegetarian and vegan to mean something and for

us to not use these descriptions unless they are accurate. In a 'perfect'

world it probably wouldn't matter because people would be tolerant and

accepting of everyone else. My two big issues with people calling

themselves vegetarian or vegan without actually being vegetarian or vegan...

1. The eating out issue. I would like the vegan labels to mean something

so I can be sure what I'm eating doesn't have any animal products

(including honey).

2. Some non-veg people think veg*ns are suffering by not eating meat and

we are all 'dying' to cheat. I would be rich if I had half a cent for

every time someone said 'don't you just feel like eating a hamburger once

in a while' or something to that effect. No, I personally don't feel like

I'm 'giving up anything'. I love eating vegan food and have never enjoyed

food so much in my life! I don't look at meat, dairy, honey, eggs as food

at all. It is about as appetizing to me as dirt or more accurately a hunk

of human flesh...I would eat dirt long before eating meat. I know not

everyone feels this way, but I know a lot of vegans who don't miss meat at

all. Anyway, if someone calls themselves veg*n and then eats fish then it

looks like we just can't wait to eat a little meat.

I applaud everyone on their path and hope everyone is happy with where they

are right at this moment. I don't think vegans are more moral than

vegetarian or vegetarians are better than those people eating fish. I care

about all sentient beings and that includes all of the humans too. Of

course, there is a part of me who wishes we lived in a vegan world for

countless reasons, but this does not make me judge others.
