Guest guest
In response to your " bit of a stretch and eating fish. " and what it is called. I did not make up the name. I just use it. I hope this clears up the confusion about what is out there. Please remember there are lots of diets out there, fruitarians, macrobiotic, allergy etc.... When I order food at restaurants I clarify what things are cooked in. (e.g. soups saying vegetarian often have chicken or beef broth, I also clarify when I don't want fish or dairy or other by products. It is frustrating to go to a restaurant and order an item and get something other than what you ordered. Happened to me last week with chicken when I ordered a salad. Had to send it back and chose to order something different so they wouldn't just take the meat off and bring it back. ) The Institute of Food Technologists, in the July 1991 issue of its journal, Food Technology, describes six types of vegetarians. They are listed here by degree of exclusion of animal foods and by the foods included in the diet: * semi-vegetarian--dairy foods, eggs, chicken, and fish, but no other animal flesh * pesco-vegetarian--dairy foods, eggs, and fish, but no other animal flesh * lacto-ovo-vegetarian--dairy foods and eggs, but no animal flesh * lacto-vegetarian--dairy foods, but no animal flesh or eggs * ovo-vegetarian--eggs, but no dairy foods or animal flesh * vegan--no animal foods of any type. > > > ------
Guest guest
I believe that you are using the wrong source for your definitions. Anyone can make up a name. The idea and definition of a vegetarian has been around for a long time and we don't need The Institute of Food Technologists to make up clever names for people who eat a " mostly vegetable " based diet. I suppose my father could be called a pesco-chicken-beef-pig-anything that moves-vegetarian. But that would be silly wouldn't it. j

Wow, I feel famous. And it's okay. I answer as well to Reggie as to Gina. If I didn't, I wouldn'ta put it up as my handle. > Believe me I have no sense of direct > and I'm bad with names but I can cook. (:- ) Donna Well, see, I have a decent sense of direction, am fairly bad with names, and I can cook, but I don't really like it. Probably enjoying cooking is the better skill to have. > Message: 25 > Thu, 27 Oct 2005 22:18:51 -0000 > " Amy " <sandpiperhiker > For all y'all that like mushrooms... > > Now *this* is a mushroom: I really wanted a PICTURE of that thing. Oh! Randomness: Tonight on The Daily Show, they had a report on this new food product-tofu textured and flavored like human flesh. Now, my first question is, how would THEY know what human flesh tastes like? But then I can't figure out who would BUY such a thing. But I thought since this list probably has a greater concentration of tofu enthusiasts than most lists I belong to (the majority are videogame lists and the rest are for fans of a variety of actors), I thought I'd check it out. Anyone interested? Maybe those of you with the reluctant boy children (I'm just thinking this is probably the only way you could, say, get Calvin of " Calvin & Hobbes " to eat tofu)? I's just wonderin', is all. Peace, Reggie " Madonna...is Jewish in the same way she's English.
