Guest guest
I have to jump in here and say that I think that " Pescatarian " is a bit of a stretch for me. I can see the term " transitional " vegetarian for someone who's final goal is to become vegetarian...but for those who choose to eat fish, I believe that a more accurate description is " one who eats fish " but is not vegetarian. If we look back to our basic Biology I class, you may recall that there are 4 Kingdoms in the Domain Eukarya: Protista, Fungi, Plants and Animals. Within the Animal Kingdom there are the two major types: Invertebrates (which consist of the following Phyla - Annelids, Anthrops, Echinoderms and Mollusks, i.e., worms, insects, snails and sea stars respectively) and, of course, the Vertebrates (of which there is only one Phyla - Chordata, consisting of amphibians, birds, mammals, reptiles and fish). Looking at it this way, someone who is vegetarian eats from the Plant Kingdom. Someone who eats fish is eating from the Animal Kingdom, Phyla Chordata - that's the same Kingdom and Phyla as mammals. It seems strange to me to call someone a vegetarian if they eat from the animal kingdom. I believe very strongly in tolerance and individuation of one's own dietary choices. In fact, I am a vegetarian married to a carnivore. However, I think clearing up these definitions will make it easier for those of us who are only eating from the Plant Kingdom to actually get a vegetarian dish (without fish!) when we order one at a restaurant. ;-) Lisa FC
