A week or so ago I responded to someone's questions about talking with

children about not killing insects. Well, since then, I have discovered ANTS

in my kitchen! I know this may be a little off topic, but does anyone have

any friendly suggestions about how to get rid of them? I can't stand it much

longer.

Thanks,

Sharon

Sharon,

first, you need to see if they are carpenter ants or regular ants, the former

needs quicker action.

Pennyroyal oil is great to get rid of ants. Also they will not cross a chalk

line and dislike red pepper,

Hope this helps.

Peace,

Laura

Sharon,

I wrote this article for our newspaper's web site a few weeks ago.

Toward the end of the article is a list of " stuff " that ants don't seem

to like and that encourages them to go away without nuking them (and

your kitchen.) There are also a few websites about natural pest

control.

I have ants in my house also, but what concerns me more are the wasps and

yellow jackets that occassionally get in. Summer is comming and thus comes my

revolving door, in and out all day regardless of how many times tell my sisters

to keep it closed. What " humane " way is there to get rid of the bees and wasps

with out killing them and prefferably with out getting stung?

We generally just take ants and bees and wasps out. I pop a cup over the

wasps when they are on a window and slide a piece of paper underneath

(slowly) to trap them and then carefully take them outside. I have not

been stung yet, but I am sure it could happen.

We do get a lot of ants, but not cohesive swarms of them. We just try to

keep kitchen spills cleaned up so there is less incentive for them to

come in, sigh, and take the ones we do find out. they go away in the

fall...
