Guest guest
Hi, Does anyone out there know of a good vegan cookbook that has a lot of simple, family-oriented recipes with easy to find ingredients? Most of the cookbooks I've seen (vegetarian or not) have a lot of " gourmet " recipes that use the more expensive types of ingredients, and that just isn't the way my family eats! Guest guest
Both of the PETA cookbooks, The Compassionate Cook, and Cooking with PETA, have very simple ingredients and are definitely not gourmet. Also, books by Louise Hagler have some good tofu recipes. " There's no reason to drink cow's milk at any time in your life. It was designed for calves, not humans, and we should all stop drinking it today. " - Dr. Frank A. Oski, former director of pediatrics, Johns Hopkins University, author of the physicians' textbook: The Portabl Pediatrician. " I no longer recommend dairy products...there was a time when cow's milk was considered very desirable. But research, along with clinical experience, has forced doctors and nutritionists to rethink this recommendation. Guest guest
My favorite basic vegan cookbooks are The Compassionate Cook and Cooking with PETA, both by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. The ingredients are fairly mainstream and the recipes are simple. There are lots of different recipe types. susan ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Guest guest
I think Dr. Klapper's book on pregnance, nursing, and childhood is great. It's more that just a recipe book and not expensive. You should check it out. Alexa

Yep. Try _The Vegetarian No-Cholesterol Family-Style Cookbook_ by Kate Schumann and Virginia Messina. I've liked everything I've tried from that book (mostly desserts, I admit). The " carrots in love " (not a dessert) are exceptionally good and were a big hit at my family's Thanksgiving two years ago. ---- Patricia Bullington-McGuire <patricia The brilliant Cerebron, attacking the problem analytically, discovered three distinct kinds of dragon: the mythical, the chimerical, and the purely hypothetical. Guest guest
This is not a vegan cookbook but rather a whole foods cookbook, " Feeding the Whole Family " by Cynthia Lair. It has whole foods recipes for babies, young children and their parents. Lots of great recipes and gives ideas on how to vary a recipe for babies and children (for those picky eaters out there).
