Guest guest
Check out the front page of the Sunday New York Times. McDonalds is being sued for not disclosing the fact that it seasons its french fries with beef products before shipping them to the franchises to be fried in 100% vegetable oil. This took me and I'm sure quite a few others by surprise, to say the least. They made a big splash when they switched to veg. oil in 1990 -- but now because of the lawsuit say they did not claim that their fries were vegetarian. Apparently, groups had been trying unsuccessfully to find out all of the ingredients -- and even the FDA could not help them. It wasn't until the lawsuit was filed that they disclosed the true ingredients. I remember asking various McDonalds specifically if there were ANY animal products in the fries after the switch over and was always assured that there weren't. The article says that corporate spokespersons for Wendys and Burger King contend that there are NO animal products in their fries. An attorney in Seattle is filing the class action suits. A Vegetarian Legal Advocacy Group from George Washington University Law School in D.C. contacted him to file the brief they had written. NO MORE MCDONALDS FOR MY FAMILY! Guest guest
The Vegetarian Journal which is the mag. of The Vegetarian Resource Group (www.vrg.org) published a list of " Veggie Food in Restaurant Chains " in their November/December 1997 issue and part 2 in their January/February 1998 issue. The latter issue contained information that they had gathered as of 1997 through McDonlads-VRG was told that the natural flavorings in the fries were from beef. Vegetarian Journal has recently updated some of the information from these issues-McDonalds had not been change as far at they knew.
