Guest guest
I am a mother of two children. A 4 year old boy and 2 1/2 year old girl. I just teach them to respect their fellow creatures. My daughter doesn't quite get it yet but my son asks what everything is made out of. I don't know if we are what can be considered 'Vegan' but we are somewhere in between Vegetarian and Vegan. The kids eat veggie corndogs and chik nuggets. We don't consume dairy milk, or buy eggs and I've been looking into alternatives to cheese. The Soy cheese I bought had casein in it *sigh* When my son finds out what something is made of he sweetly says 'Poor pig' or 'Poor cow'. Nothing wrong with raising compassionate human beings. Guest guest
That's great. My husband (vegan 12 years...he became vegan to make his dad mad...now it is for ethical reasons...so he's worried about our son rebeling and becoming a cattle rancher or something) is worried about peer pressure and our son 'fitting in'. Our son was born with a heart defect so it is even more important for him to follow a veg diet. He's nursing, of course, right now and his cardiologist is supportive of our diet/lifestyle...we're lucky because a lot of doctors know nothing about nutrition. I used to voluteer at an animal sanctuary back in Maryland and that was a great place to teach kids about animals, but here in Illinois the cows he'll see are at (cringe) petting zoos, driving by a beef/dairy farm in the car, or at the vet med school here at the U of I with a hole cut in the side so the kids can see how alive cow's stomach works! It can get so depressing sometimes. On a happier note: Can you suggest any music CDs with kids songs that are veg friendly? They all seem to have " Old McDonald Had a Farm " or fishing songs, etc. I'm also looking for veg friendly children's books and puzzles/games. Guest guest
Hi, I have been vegan for 15 years. I was vegan 6 years before conceiving my first child, remained vegan throughout the pregnancy, breastfed (14 mos), had another child (18 mos apart)...breastfed 19 mos...had a third child 23 mos later, breastfed 19 mos. I was vegan the whole time. Now the girls are 4, 6, 8...I'm still vegan, so are they, so is my husband. Feel free to email if you have any questions. Guest guest
Yes, I am trying to compile information about vegan women who successfully got pregnant, and to document important data like age, height, weight, and typical diet. I have been searching a lot lately, but have not been able to find any information about vegan women who have gotten pregnant. If you don't want to give me that information, at least I already know you were successful. Scott, My neighbor is vegan and was before, during, and after her last baby who is 14 mos now she is still nursing him. Her whole family of dh, and four children are vegan. I don't think she would mind if you emailed her and asked her questions as long as it is done in a positive light. Her name is Darleen. I owe it to her for helping me become vegan.
