Guest guest
Hi everyone, I am currently preparing to take all the dairy out of our diet mainly for the sake of my 10 year old daughter. And I have no idea how I am going to accomplish this just yet and I am starting with this under the advice of a Dr. who did kinesiolgy and her body reacted to the dairy.. along with other things.. and then an intuitive friend picking up that the dairy and meat was affecting her hormonally.. I am from the southern part of Illinois and a dairy free and even vegan type lifestyle is completely foreign to all the people I know in my area. I am somewhat pulling at straws to find a way to balance her emotionally ... (and seriously trying to stay sane myself ) it is very difficult to make even slight changes and if I could find some 'really' good meals to fix that are more on a beginners level.. I would be very appreciative. I've been searching the internet for ideas but some of the products names are even foreign to me .. and soy milk was just introduced into the house this past week without very happy reviews. I'm not even sure what is considered true 'dairy' and what is not. Any advice would be appreciated.. my home email is cosmic1 Thank you! Guest guest
One thing about soy milk is that if you are used to drinking glasses of cow's milk it just doesn't taste the same (mind you I always hated cow's milk). I don't drink soy milk straight, but have it as hot chocolate, chocolate milk, in a soycachino, a smoothie, in cereal, etc. I found the Uncheese Cookbook to be a help in the beginning. I also used Veggie Shreds in place of shredded cheese. Guest guest
Hi Chantyl, My son likes the vanilla rice milk better than the soy milk. My daughter wont touch either, so she drinks calcium fortified orange juice with every meal. Soy or rice milk work well in baking. You can use it in place of milk in the same quantities. You will probably need some good tofu cook books. I use Tofu in place of many dairy products as well as meat. Depending on how strictly you want to watch milk ingredients, watch for ingredients like casin and whey. We like all of the recipes that we have tried at http://www.geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/4482recipies.html The pancakes are great! Good luck, I wish I could help more but Im learning too.
