Guest guest
Hi there! I read once that putting lavender oil on your doorways would deter ants from coming inside? I really need some humane method of keeping them out - any suggestions????? Lynne Stornello libby63
Guest guest
I've read the same thing about vinegar. Just spray it around doorways and anywhere else you find ants. It would be a lot cheaper to try than lavender oil. Maria Lynne Stornello <libby63 wrote: Hi there! I read once that putting lavender oil on your doorways would deter ants from coming inside? Guest guest
Actually vinegar works the best. I have a friend who was a plant biology major, and she said ants give off a pheromone that smells to them like vinegar. If you " wipe " your doorways or other entry points with it, other ants will think there is already another colony living there. I also have used cayenne pepper with much success. Good luck! Guest guest
I've used red pepper. I keep it down for about two weeks and then sweep it up. I don't have a problem with ants for the rest of the season. Hope this helps Judie Cummings jmc Lynne Stornello [libby63] Wednesday, June 27, 2001 9:14 AM ANTS Hi there! Guest guest
I have used red pepper flakes in the past. I sprinkle it down along the edges of my kitchen (where the ants come in), and keep it down for about two weeks. Then sweep it up, I only have to do this once a year. Hope this helps Judie Cummings jmc , " Lynne Stornello " <libby63@H...> wrote: > Hi there! I read once that putting lavender oil on your doorways would > deter ants from coming inside? Guest guest
Hi, Lynne I put White Vinegar on our doorways to deter ants from coming inside. It has worked since 1 week very well. This suggestion comes from: " Tue, 29 May 2001 11:01:34 -0700 (PDT) Karen Butler <kbutlerjr Hi, A friend of mine who is a landscaper by profession recommends putting vinegar around all openings and entrances to your house. Ants produce a phermone that smells similar to vinegar, once the ants smell the vinegar, they will think other ants are already colonized there and won't enter the house. You simply brush or wipe the entrances with white vinegar) " . By the way, thanks to Karen Butler Sherrie --- Message: 2 Wed, 27 Jun 2001 08:13:46 -0500 " Lynne Stornello " <libby63 ANTS Hi there!
