Guest guest
Here are some other terrific sources of calcium: Tofu Hummus Tempeh Black turtle, navy, pinto, white beans Sesame Seeds Tahini Almonds Almond Butter (instead of Peanut Butter) Broccoli Okra Chinese cabbage Collard greens Mustard greens Kale Rutabaga Figs Orange Hijiki Wakame Blackstrap Molasses (2 Tablespoons provide as much calcium as a glass of milk and as much iron as an 8 oz. steak...makes it a perfect sweetener for goodies!) I would stay away from cow sources of calcium. The molecules are too big to be absorbed and used...kinda pointless. Cow products will also attach themselves to much needed proteins and pull them out of the body! If you wish to include dairy for calcium reasons, then use goat milk and cheese. The molecules are smaller and better absorbed. Hope this helps! Gina My son is 16 months old. Until 13 months he was on either breast milk or soy formula. I am trying to raise him more or less vegan but I am really worried he isn't getting enough calcium.
Guest guest
Have you tried making him a soy shake? My youngest LOVES strawberry & banana soy shakes. (Frozen strawberries or bananas & vanilla soy milk, ends up like ice cream) I also put some kind of flavoring in the plain soy milk. Sun Soy makes a coffee flavored milk that my kids really like. Also they have calcium fortified orange juice if he likes that. I have the same worry for my four children. I have one kiddo that is especially picky and I am afraid he will turn into a cracker or a piece of bread. hehe Good Luck! Guest guest
Madeline, My son drank mostly calcium fortified orange juice until he decided he liked calcium fortified soymilk. Try different brands, too, as they all taste different and he may like one of them! Susan ______________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! Guest guest
I have the same dilemma. I still breastfeed but started giving my 18 month old some organic cows milk to drink. I would love tp become vegan but find it diffivult to cut out cheese etc. Also, the hassle I got from her nursery and my family was off - putting. Guest guest
How do you make your hummus? I have a hard time finding the tahini here, the one my dh bought is in powder and hot water needs to be added, bleah. I heard you don't need to cook the chickpeas. Anyone has a good hummus recipe? Guest guest
Hi Elisa- I make hummus this way: one can of chickpeas (save water from the can to the side) 1 tablespoon tahini 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 tablespoon lemon juice 3 cloves crushed garlic mix all with a hand mixer and add saved water to desired consistency I sure hope that you are able to find ready made tahini before I get there:-) Carmen --- ~*~*Elisa*~*~ <elisa.bieg wrote: > How do you make your hummus? Guest guest
LOL Carmen, I hope so too! Thanks for the recipe! I don't use canned veggies, so the last time I had to soak and cook the chickpeas. Do you have any directions on that? Any raw-foodist on the list? Hugs, " My darling girl, when are you going to understand that being normal isn't necessarily a virtue. Guest guest
Hi Elisa- I have soaked them and cooked them before too. It seems to me I soaked them overnight and then boiled them for a couple of hours... Carmen --- ~*~*Elisa*~*~ <elisa.bieg wrote: > LOL Carmen, I hope so too! > > Thanks for the recipe!
