Guest guest Posted September 8, 2001 Report Share Posted September 8, 2001 I am/was vegan while pregnant. I am 5'5 " and weighed about 125 lbs. I gained 44 pounds and had a healthy 8lb baby girl. My doctor had never had a vegan patient but she was supportive because I presented to her as well read and knowledgeable about the topic. I ate LOTS of dark leafy green vegetables and I drank a soy protein shake loaded with fruits and veggies every morning. That provided me with about 50 grams of protein so I didn't have much to worry about the rest of the day. I ate sensibly - no fried foods, refined sugar, white flour, etc. I lost all but 10 lbs right away...I still struggle with those last few pounds but I think it is my age (39) rather than the diet.
