Guest guest
I just signed Eva (my almost three year old) up for a preschool playgroup two mornings a week and am looking for ovolacto or vegan lunch ideas. The children aren't permitted to share lunches, but even if she accidentally got into someone else's lunch, they require kosher (or " kosher style " ) dairy lunches, so the worst she could get into is fish. They didn't mention fish, though, so I doubt many kids will be bringing it. What do you send to school with your kids? My mother was teasing me that I should send some 'neen' but I'm sure she'll be ok without nursing for that long She has before... she's getting so big! Anyway, so far, this is what I have: Drinks: Soy shakes, she likes Vigoraid by Westsoy in juice boxes Warm apple cider, herb tea or cocoa in a thermos (what other warm drinks are good?) Bottled water (I'll prob send water every day along w her other stuff, she drinks a lot of water) Food: Cream cheese and jelly sandwiches, cut up into quarters or fingers Nut butter and fruit spread sandwiches on bread, cut up into quarters or fingers Nut butter sandwiches on small crackers Peeled hard boiled egg, halved Cheese or baked tofu cubes Greek yoghurt w honey Ziti or multicolored finger food pasta w/ tomato sauce to dip & grated cheese Chick peas, green beans and macaroni (mixed together, no sauce) Pancake and sausage w/ fruit spread to dip Hot dog wrapped in biscuit dough and baked Baby potatoes and carrots, cooked whole, with yoghurt based dip Baked white or sweet potato " fries " with cubed burger and ketchup to dip Thermos of bean & veggie soup with toast fingers to dip in it Thermos of rice & beans, grated or shredded cheese on the side to mix in Snacks and sides: Fruit w/ dip (cream cheese with juice concentrate or preserves mixed in) Dried fruit or fruit leather Baked chips, veggie chips or veggie/fruit/pirate's booty Just Veggies or Fruit Fresh whole banana

Guest guest
Eva, It sounds like you already have tons of great ideas. My daughter likes pasta with TVP spagetti sauce, or nutritional yeast and tofu based sauces with zucchini and mushrooms, hummus and veggies or chips to dip, baked beans and quinoa. My daughter also likes silken tofu fruit smoothies, soy yogert, and trail mixes. Homemade banana or pumpkin breads, cookies and muffins are also favorites. Good luck, Linda _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp
Guest guest
Hello, and Nice to meet you!!! You have some great lunch ideas!!! Some of my kids favorites are: Drinks: -soy milk boxes -Most fruit juices especially if it comes in a box..or if I put it in those drink bottls with a straw. -Homemade flavored soy milks again best if in a travel bottle with straw Simply add flavoring to ordinary soymilk some ideas may be: chocolate or carob, cinnamon, mango, orange, pinapple,banana..etc...use your imagination and think of your daughters favorite flavors. -fruit and tofu smoothies ( often these are enough to fill my kids up on my own and it's easy to sneak in extra nutrience Foods: -One of my kids favorites is tofu salad sandwiches -Leftovers... may sound crazy but but my dd seems to think that food tastes better coming out of a plastic container and a bag or lunch box... or maybe it's just the homecooked thing away from home. -Rice with margarine and Nutritional Yeast flakes ( or cheesy powder as we call it. chunks of tofu or steamed veggies can be added to this if desired... and with a bit of braggs it becomes a very believable fried rice. -nut butter sandwiches with slices or smashed fruit -fruit sanwiches -cucumber sandwiches -carrot salad sandwiches (shredded carrots mixed with a vegan mayo, and if the mood suits raisins) -any type of salad or " normal " sandwich toppings in pita bread -tortilla rolls ...are favorites are pizza, taco (beans and cheese), or pb and fruit. - homemade lunchables: any type of meal a kid can assemble ( or eat seperately if they choose)served in a container with various compartments. Snacks: -Fruit..of all kinds...with or without dip. -soy pretzels- plain or with anything that it can be dipped into -veggie booty -soy nuts -breadsticks -sunflower seeds -roasted pumpkin seeds -popcorn!!!! our favorite...airpopped with or without added flavorings... Basically anything that seems novel gets points so be sure to try cutting sandwiches with a knife or cookie cutter. fruits and veggies can be cut into all kinds of cool shapes too. Hope this helps.
