Guest guest
One day at a time.... Anybody have ideas on what to do when the people the kids want to asimilate are family... and one of which lives in the same house? Here's the deal. I'm the mother of two. Nadia is 4 1/2 years and Daniel 23 months old. Our house became vegetarian over the course of the last few years. And has been vegan (mostly) for the past two plus years. But, my dh is not what I would consider vegetarian. He eats the same as us at home... mostly... he does occasionally bring home fast food or order pizzas that aren't vegan. But when we go out... it's his call he may eat vegatarian he may not. And none of our family or friends... so far are vegetarian.( I really want to work on that one) So... as you may guess Daniel ( whose food I can still control but I feel not for much longer)and I are vegan. Nadia is vegan with me... but out of respect for her dad she is allowed to eat the same as him when we are out with him, but I don't encourage it. She says " I am vegetarian but I eat shrimp and crab, and animal cheese. " She usually doesn't eat other meats but does like hot dogs and occasionally will " try " other things at family gatherings. Becuase I want this to be a decision she makes herself I'm currently at a loss. My feelings on this are that I would like her to be vegan. And when she askes what I want her to do ( yes she actually asks me somtimes) I tell her that I don't eat anything animal and don't that I want her to either. Yet I do somtimes let her choose for herself always first telling her when somthing she is considering has animal in it. She was not born a vegetarian and I don't know if I can help her to realize how strongly I feel this way without seemingly disrespecting her father and all of her family and friends who do eat animals. Am I handling this is the best possible way? It sure would be helpful if she at least had some friends that were vegetarian. But I haven't yet figured out a way to meet and become friends with others who may possibly be vegetarian in our area. ( I just don't know anyone else who is) Any ideas?
