Help! My daughter just turned one. She has always been a good eater

(organic baby food jars) but now when she sees our real food, she won't have

anything to do with the jars. I've tried grinding up different beans w/

tomato sauce, tofu with fruit but after the first few times she wont' touch

it. She's getting very independent - wants to eat her own food. Tried

giving her peas and carrots - she does eat those and then starts mushing

them. Any suggestions? She only has 4 teeth so far so the softer the food,

the better...

THANKS!!!!!

Hi Lynne,

My kids were eating table foods by that age without any problems. They were

pretty good at gumming things so we didn't have to do much more than cut things

up pretty small by that point. My son Jared could actually feed himself at

7mos! He was very coordinated and actually could use a spoon and do a neater

job than if I was feeding him. My daughter on the other hand had more of a

tendancy to wear the bowl on her head if I left her to feed herself. LOL

We delayed solids until almost 8 months, but when we gave them to her, we

went straight to table food. Other than being careful to not introduce too

many new foods at once, I don't see why she can't eat your food. You don't

need to puree it, just make sure they're sizes she can't choke on (like a

whole stalk of broccoli too big to get into her mouth).
