That's what bothered me more than the " Parents " suggested answer... the idea that the thing that is troubling the child (e.g. Is eating animals really OK?) should be handled with a " quick derail " rather than a more thoughtful approach. Why not praise the child for his/her critical thinking and continue having thoughtful discussion? As an irreverent professor once said: Americans are great believers, but not always great thinkers.
