Guest guest
Hi- The book referring to vegan children/pregnancy by Dr. Michael Klaper is called " Pregnancy, Children, and the Vegan Diet " . It's a very informative book and has pictures of healthy vegan children to put your mind at ease Also, I've been vegan for 12 years and was completely vegan through both my pregnancies. I have two healthy, vegan daughters ages 5 1/2 and almost 3. My oldest daughter was a little over 7 lbs. at birth and my youngest was 8lbs 3oz. They both have been very healthy their whole lives. My oldest didn't even get a significant cold/ ear infection, etc. before she was 2 years old. One of the secrets to good health, in my opinion, is extended breastfeeding. My youngest only recently stopped nursing and my oldest nursed until she was a little bit over 3 years old. That's the only kind of dairy a human child needs. When a little inkling of worry creeps in, I remind myself that no other creature drinks milk past baby/toddlerhood, especially not the milk of another species. When I was pregnant, I definitely craved extra protein. I ate a lot of boca burgers, burritos, and tofu. I also took a vitamin to make sure I was getting B-12 and everything else. My OB/Gyn (from Belgium) was very supportive. He reassured me that my diet was healthy and that the baby would take what it needed first. He said any vitamin deficiency would show up in me first (which, of course, it never did). I hope this info. was helpful! andrea > > > > Digest Number 296 >5 Dec 2001 09:06:36 -0000 > >For more information about vegetarianism, please visit the VRG website at >http://www.vrg.org and for materials especially useful for families go to >http://www.vrg.org/family. > >
