Guest guest
1 - There are numerous BOOKS available on vegetarians and vegans during pregnancy, nursing and infants. I liked Pregnancy, Children, and the Vegan Diet by Michael Klaper, MD. Dr. Klaper lives in Maui, Hawaii, and has been a darling of the vegetarian movement and vegan communities for over a decade. 2 - There are nearly twenty (yes, 20 - cout 'em) vegetarian e-mail lists on the topic of children, parenting, etc. (not counting kids, teens, etc.) 3 - Local vegetarian societies do or should have chidren's playgroups and parent co-support groups. If you local group doesn't have one yet, start the group with you as its first (and temporarily) only member. These groups will fill up with parents of young vegetarians very quickly, and they will provide an ongoing support network for you throughout your and your children's lives. 4 - There are numerous websites for vegetarian nutrtion, vegetarian parenting, vegetarian children, and vegetarian family support. 5 - Some religious and spiritual groups have been around for a long time and have developed the social and personal maturity to support parents. Unlike local vegetarian societies, groups like the Seventh Day Adventists (SDA's), Hindus, Jains, et al, though ethnic or ideological, have in some cases hundreds of years, and in other cases thousands of years nurturing vegetarian infants and their families. Some of that wisdom and knowledge can be transferred outside the social, cultural, and ideological matrix/matrices in which it was first developed and thus arose. Keep all five of those in mind, then start cataloging them, in their respective categories. You will have a long list. Maynard S. Clark Send your FREE holiday greetings online at Greetings.
