Guest guest
Dinner The other night I used the 'Foreman' grill I gave my mom for Xmas and grilled tofu slices, red pepper, and portobello mushroom which I'd marinated for about 4 hours in soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and dijon...much to my surprise it was delicious and very quick. I laughed at my mom for wanting the grill but now I'm thinking it may be my next purchase! We also had hummus and pita and I used the left over pita for sandwiches the next day! Tonight's dinner was a disaster. I tried a recipe for baked beans that I found in the Veg. Times cookbook but something went wrong! (this was my first attempt) So, I'm wondering if anyone has a recipe they'd care to share? The sauce was fine, but for some reason the beans didn't cook well even though I soaked them over night. Madeline PS Does anyone know whether the 'coating' (a sort of non-stick surface) on the grill is harmful? I'm becoming more and more suspicious of convenience! _______________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp. I tend to get 'crunchy' beans even when I soak them overnight if I don't go with the pressure cooker. Dh read some studies recently about teflon (spelled wrong I'm sure) or the 'coating' is harmful. I don't remember all the details, but I'll try to find the sources he mentioned. It was something about people were buying canaries (the birds) to detent certain poisons in the air and they were dying when things were burned on the non-stick pans. Dh has always hated them because you can see a little of the teflon coming off over time so you know you do ingest it. Of course, if the alternative is using a ton of oil that is not good for you either. I can usually get by with water instead of oil when I saute things and I use super canola oil (sparingly). The only other oil we use in extra virgin olive oil. I also love our cast iron skillets and wok. I know I'm getting extra iron instead of some possible manmade toxin. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Thanks for the tip on the GF grill because I have a meat-eating friend who wants some veg recipes to use on her grill. She is trying to go veg, but she hates for her grill to go to waste. Linda Send FREE video emails in Mail! http://promo./videomail/
