Guest guest
> but for some reason the beans > didn't cook well > even though I soaked them over night. I hate that! You go to all that work and the recipe doesn't work. I've had that experience with split peas every time I cook them. Here is what could be happening: 1) The beans were too old (I had some that wouldn't cook after trying for 3-4 hours) 2) Adding salt while they cook will cause them to be hard like that (read all labels for salt and delay adding it to the beans until the beans are cooked thoroughly. 3) Not letting the water come to a boil first. I hope you discover what the problem was. Don't have a recipe to share for baked beans. Good luck, Shelly
Guest guest
Ok, so today I did one of my experiments No, basically I am never happy with the recipes I know, always trying new ones! So today I made springrolls from scratch, which I never did before. Stir-fried, carrots, peas and chinese cabbage with safflower oil and added a sauce made with soy sauce, raw honey, water and corn starch to the mix, let it thinken up and cook and then filled the rolls, rolled them up and briefly fried them (I never eat fried foods, but this was literally a 2 minute dip on each side, the rolls cook very fast and the veggies are already cooked). I accompanied them with wild rice, and served soy sauce and sweet & sour sauce at the table. Hugs, " My darling girl, when are you going to understand that being normal isn't necessarily a virtue. It rather denotes a lack of courage! " Aunt Frances in Practical Magic
Guest guest
Those spring rolls sounded wonderful! I wish my experiments turned out so well. I just wanted to mention that if they're fried, they're not " officially " spring rolls. They'd normally be called egg rolls, but obviously that's not quite right in this instance. Spring rolls are cold, with raw ingredients and wrapper. FWIW, Liz
