Guest guest
Hi- Tonight we are having " Hamburger " barley soup. Basically it contains 8 oz tomato sauce, 28 oz can of chopped tomatoes, 1/2 c chopped celery, 1 chopped green pepper, 1 c minced onion, 3 sliced carrots, veggie beef crumbles, 1/3 c barley, 3-4 veggie boullion cubes, 2 bay leaves, water. I am serving it with corn bread (does Quaker Corn meal contain GMOs?) and a leafy green salad. My 2 year old son loves this soup! Thanks to everyone else for sharing your dinner ideas. Guest guest
Last night I made a " stew " (I make these throw it all in the pot dishes a lot!) It contained vegetable broth as the base; yellow split peas, potatoes, eggplant, mushrooms, onion, fresh garlic, zucchini, corn, peas, an carrots. When this was sell cooked (the potatoes almost mushy as to make the veggie broth thicker. I added a box (4) Boca italian sausages, cooked and cut into chunks. Spiced it with blk pepper, cumin, garlic (yes more - we love garlic) and some basil and rosemary. Pretty good, not my best, but no complaints from the family! Guest guest
<I just wanted to mention that if they're fried, they're not " officially " spring rolls. They'd normally be called egg rolls, but obviously that's not quite right in this instance. Spring rolls are cold, with raw ingredients and wrapper.> Really? So what are those things that get served at Chinese Restaurants and are called by them " spring rolls " ? They also fry them or stir-fry them, and the ingredients inside are cooked. Wouldn't an egg roll have to be made with an egg-based wrap? These were made with the rice-based wrap, which in the front said " spring roll wrap " and in the back had 3 different recipes for spring rolls, and they were all fried at the end. Is this just a big " westernalization " ? (our calling them " spring rolls " ) where did you learn the difference? Sorry for all the question, you really made me curious. Hugs, " My darling girl, when are you going to understand that being normal isn't necessarily a virtue. It rather denotes a lack of courage! I'm just wondering about this spring roll thing..... My husband is Malaysian and spring rolls are quite common there. I have been served spring rolls many times in homes, restaurants, clubs and parties both here and abroad ( in Malaysia, Singapore, and London) And they have always been fried. In fact I have tried several brands of springroll wrappers from an oriental food shop near me and the instructions always say to pan or deep fry. The same in my cookbooks. I thought that perhaps the difference was the wrapper and whether they contain eggs, but no that can't be it I read some packages at the store and some did and some didn't contain eggs. Are you perhaps refering to the japanese style which are often called vegetarian sushi? Those are the only type I have heard of that are cold and uncooked, besides california rolls or tortilla wraps. Sorry, if you are refering to somthing different, I only know my experiences.
