Guest guest
[From the little 'ephemra' box in WIRED NEWS today, sorry no better source. - David Shishkoff] Eat Yer Prunes School menus nationwide may soon get more exotic, if new government concoctions pass muster with finicky fifth- and sixth-graders. Prune burgers, a mix of beef and prune puree, and sweet potato pancakes are popular with young inner-city taste testers. Broccoli, alas, doesn't make the grade no matter how you purée it -- broc guac was a dud. The prune (or, officially, " dried plum " ) burger trumps an all-beef patty on at least one front: It's 40 percent less fat. Lest you think the altruistic notion of improving kids' health is behind the menu redo, think again. The Agriculture Department, under pressure from Congress to buy up surplus crops and bolster produce prices, is looking for ways to offload the leftovers. Auctions Great stuff seeking new owners!
