Carol,

 

Ahimsa is the practice of " dynamic harmlessness, " or doing the least harm and

the most good. It's my understanding that Ahimsa is a basic tenet of the

religion Jainism, and it was adopted by the first vegan society in existence to

help describe the concept of veganism. A person does not have to to

Jainism to practice Ahimsa, nor do they have to actively practice Ahimsa to

consider themselves vegan. (Although, the concept of Ahimsa is an apt

description of what being vegan is all about, IMO.) It's simply a mindset, a

way a person chooses to live their life -- much the same way a person chooses to

live by " the Golden Rule. " Anyways, I hope that was a good explanation of it.
