Guest guest
I think that Dr. Mercola is on drugs of some sort! Have you read his article titled " The Naive Vegetarian " ? He beleives that vegans are violent because we are missing nutrients, I have met more violent meat eaters in my time. He also believes that parents who are raising their kids vegan are comitting child abuse! He also thinks that organic produce is unhealthy and a waste of money. Guest guest
Oh, I hate coming across articles like that. These days it is so hard to know what is true and what is not. One day they are saying " Such and such food is the best. It has all these health benefits... " and the next day they are saying " Oh, that study was all wrong, this food is actually bad for you... " . I think I should just stop eating all together (LOL). BTW - I have heard variations on some of those arguments other places and some people seem to think they are serious concerns and others think there is no real evidence for them and that the health benefits are far greater. I'm sure it depends on who is paying the bills for the study!! I think I will continue to eat soy but as with all things - moderation, moderation. Guest guest
Remember when research reports said eggs were bad for people because of cholesterol? Then a year later, other research reports, sponsored by the egg industry, said eggs contain enzymes which help digest the high cholesterol. Research tells us that Research tells us what Research sponsors want Research to tell us. -- Be kind. Be of good cheer. Dick Ford
Guest guest
I'm glad you sent this article again. I read it several months ago when someone posted it and I researched it a bit. It turns out the very reputable authors work for an organization that promotes the eating of meat, the " Weston A. Price Foundation " . As well, it states that soy is not GRAS according to the FDA. If you go to the FDA website you will find that this is not so. Much of the information that says it's from the FDA are from one letter that was written to the FDA by an unknown scientist or doctor. As well, there is a response to this letter by FDA scientists which refutes the problems suggested about soy. So I would suggest that this article is very unreliable. Even it's claims that infant soy formula is bad are unsubstantiated. A recent study quoted in the Vegetarian Times noted that there was no substantial difference between adults who had been raised on soy vs. other milk (except for the women menstruated on average 1 day longer). So take out of it what you will. Personally, I don't think you should base your whole diet on one product but eat it in moderation. ~Melanie. > > ~*~*Elisa*~*~ [elisa.bieg] > Saturday, March 09, 2002 2:27 PM > Veggie Parents Mailing List > article against soy > > > I just read this article > http://www.mercola.com/article/soy/avoid_soy.htm > > what do you think? Guest guest
Just to clarify, there is a difference in the health of people who were breastfed as opposed to receiving other animal or soy formulas. BTW, I really could do without an extra day of menstruating! Jacqueline - Melanie Mobbs March 13, 2002 19:23 RE: article against soy I'm glad you sent this article again. Guest guest
If an anti-soy article has Sally Fallon's name attached to it, I would be skeptical of the " facts " presented. I think I've read this one, and I seem to remember a connection to SF.
