Call me overly sensitive, but I fould this post somewhat offensive. I'm not

really keen on anyone being told what they *should* do, especially when

shouted. But even more so, what were you implying by saying you hope the

vegetarian parents are married?

I think that when people seek suggestions, respondants might want to keep in

mind that telling them what they think " should " happen sounds more like a

directive than a suggestion. (from a linguistics point of view, " should " is

a power word which implies guilt in non-compliance: are they " bad " parents

if they don't join such a group list?)

And personally, coming from a non-traditional family style myself and being

in a non-traditional family, I would think one's opinion on matters of

marriage are entirely irrelevant on this baord, unless that opinion is

specifically sought. Being veg*n parents and raising veg*n kids are hard

enough without other veg*ns offering their unsolicited views on family

structure. Perhaps a better wording might have been " ... and I assume they

are[married] ... " .

I'm new to this list, so if I'm wrong here and this is typical of this list,

let me know now so I can find another.

Thanks for hearing me out.

Doh - I agree with you. It seemed a bit judgemental to " hope that

veg*n parents are married " - that is a personal matter. I happen to

be happily married, but if I was not I would still be a great mom.

Doh,

I am also a single veggie mama, and was very offended

at this comment. I even read it a couple times over,

because I didn't really understand why such a thing

would be written. You're not alone!! :)
