On behalf of a journalist with a major daily, I'm looking for an elementary

school (preferably in VA, MD, or Washington, DC) that serves soymilk.

If you know of such a school, please contact me directly and as quickly as

possible.

Thanks very much.

I am a 2nd grade teacher in Austin, Tx. I have a couple of vegertarian students

that don't want to drink milk. The district's policy is that they have to have

a note from their doctor which states they are allergic to milk. I am totally

appalled. The school probably gets money for selling the milk.......One little

girl was told she had to get milk. This really pisses me off.

Anyone have any suggestions about how I can get this changed? Has anyone

confronted their school or district about not only serving milk?

Thanks,

Lindsey

That is apalling! A note from a parent or a child's refusal should be

sufficient!

My kids (who are also vegan) go to elementary school in Plano,

Texas...they always bring their lunch so it doesn't matter...however, at

the beginning I met with some of the school personnel to find out what

the kids could eat that was totally vegetarian...they did mention some

state guidelines but then said something like 'but since they don't

drink milk they could have juice' they read me ingredients and recipes

of different items they served (I grilled them:) ) They seemed like they

would be very accomodating...but after all that my kids still weren't

ready to try the cafeteria...Anyway, I'm surprised that an Austin (veg

capitol of Tex.) school would react that way...'sorry this was no

help...but I agree with you that it is so wrong that they should be made

to take milk or have to say they are allergic!! I don't know why they

have to push milk the way the do in the schools but I'm sure someone

from this group will shed some light...have you ever been to

notmilk.com? It used to be a great sight...you could check it out..
