Guest guest
Does anyone know of any 100% effective natural mosquito repellents? I use scentless soap and lotions, etc. but still get eaten alive by mosquitoes.

I bought some stuff from the health food store called Jungle Juice, it is all natural and helped alot, but we are in a somewhat rural area and we have a pond in our front yard so we have alot of ruthless mosquitoes. Sara --\ -------------------Umm...I don't know about that. I've had mosquitoes go right through my jeans before - on several occasions as a matter of fact. I don't think there is any such thing as a 100% effective mosquito repellent. We ended up getting a bathouse this year, and I'm really hoping that some bats show up and take care of them for us. Actually, even clothing isn't 100%. Many mosquitos can bite through clothing, especially if it's thin. My step-mother swears by B vitamin supplements. Some people also take garlic extract tablets to ward off bugs. I've never tried either of those methods myself. California Baby makes a chemical-free (and cruelty-free) sunblock that contains citronella as a bug repellent. I don't remember getting any mosquito bites when we used that last summer, but we were using it mostly as a sunscreen and I don't remember noting whether other people around us were getting bitten while we were not. ---- Patricia Bullington-McGuire <patricia The brilliant Cerebron, attacking the problem analytically, discovered three distinct kinds of dragon: the mythical, the chimerical, and the purely hypothetical. They were all, one might say, nonexistent, but each nonexisted in an entirely different way ... -- Stanislaw Lem, " Cyberiad "
Guest guest
You might want to look at how much sweet stuff you eat before going outdoors. Some people report mosquitos attracted to you if you are eating lots of sugar, whether fruit or otherwise. just a thought. Guest guest
As far as 100% effective goes I don't think you'll find anything! I am also eaten alive by mosquitoes even when other people around me are not bitten once. This year I am going to try a natural repellent made by our local aromatherapist. I haven't purchased it yet so I'm not sure what the ingredients are but I believe a few are citronella and a type of tea tree oil and maybe lemon balm or lemongrass, but I'm guessing. If ou want the exact ingredients email me and I'll send them along after my next visit to her shop. I have read recipes for making your own repellent in some essential oil books but I'd prefer to have someone make it for me. She makes a milder one for children. A 200ml bottle costs around 6$ and she uses quality oils. I'm hoping it works...Madeline > " admartin " <admartin > > > Mosquito Repellent >Wed, 1 May 2002 13:57:12 -0400 > >Does anyone know of any 100% effective natural mosquito repellents? Guest guest
Now you just might have a point there. I've tried to isolate what could be different between me and others I am with when bitten by mosquitos. Although I don't eat sugar, I do eat a lot of fruit, including dried fruit. Thanks to everyone who responded with the helpful suggestions for repelling mosquitos. - <VAP79 Friday, May 03, 2002 5:56 PM Re: Mosquito Repellent > You might want to look at how much sweet stuff you eat before going outdoors. > Some people report mosquitos attracted to you if you are eating lots of > sugar, whether fruit or otherwise. > just a thought. > Peace, > Laura > > > > For more information about vegetarianism, please visit the VRG website at http://www.vrg.org and for materials especially useful for families go to http://www.vrg.org/family. > >
Guest guest
I also read in some magazine years ago when I first was vegan that the higher your cholesterol the more mosquitoes are attracted to you. I know I personlly used to get bit all the time (even when I was vegetarian...unknown to me my cholesterol was still very high for my age when I was still consuming dairy) and now they never bother me. I've gone a couple years now without one bite (knock on wood). When I was down in the Dominican Republic years ago all the locals thought I had some sort of disease because my legs were covered with mosquito bites...miserable! By the way, Pangea sell a vegan mosquito repellant that is natural and works great (the people I worked with at an animal sanctuary would swear by it). I think it is called Green Ban. Good luck, Linda --- VAP79 wrote: > You might want to look at how much sweet stuff you > eat before going outdoors. > Some people report mosquitos attracted to you if you > are eating lots of > sugar, whether fruit or otherwise. > just a thought. > Peace, > Laura > > Health - your guide to health and wellness http://health.
