Guest guest
Here is a link. This is just a summary of the original article. They mention not relying on one source for you B12. This sounds pretty smart since studies have shown some foods people thought were good sources of B12 are no longer considered B12 sources (due to absorption or other issues). http://www.veganoutreach.org/health/b12.html Abridged article http://www.veganoutreach.org/health/b12abridged.pdf More info http://www.veganoutreach.org/health/b12letter.html I'm not trying to scare anyone. No, I don't have references, though I suppose it's possible to dig some up. It's one of those things I've heard mentioned (from legit sources, doctors and veg*n books, etc) so many times over the years that I accept it now. Maybe PCRM says something about it. Of course, you may be getting enough in your sources (and it's in nutr. yeast, and I think I read it's fairly easy to absorb from there). Then again, you might be on the verge of anemia and not know it! It's one of those deficiencies that takes years to show up. I have a friend who was vegetarian (before I met her) for 6 years, and said was a very careful vegetarian which I believe, knowing her. Anyway, she said she just started feeling really bad, really run down and tired, so she went back to eating meat and immediately felt better, felt 100%. It just occurred to me that she was probably b12 anemic - when I asked her, she said she took multi-vitamins but didn't concentrate on any specific nutrient or take sublingual b12. (Alas, now she's so addicted to an animal-protein diet there's no convincing her to go back.) ~Doh
